Field Bindweed

Washington, PA(Zone 6b)

Does anyone know where I should post a help request for this invasive weed? I'm trying to help my neighbors because they are infested with this bindweed and we don't know what to do... Please help...

I also have an infestation of it, I just pull it and keep pulling it because I don't use chemicals. There are worse weeds that I battle, at least bindweed doesn't attack when you attack it like thistles do.

groovytee, Round-Up or Finale' mixed rather strong will kill bindweed along with many others. It may take several applications to totally erradicate it but it will finally work if you just keep after it.

Also Weed b Gone will done it better than roundup as roundup only works on grass's.
Weed b gone works on all weeds but not grass's.

Thanks for answering everyone. It's all wrapped around their shrubs and plants. I've heard that weed killer will also kill their plants because it is probably wrapped around the roots as well as the foilage. Is this true?

Most weed killlers are non-selective and will kill any plant that it comes in contact with. Use it on a calm day,and watch for overspray. I put mine in an old windex spray bottle and spray it right on the leaf or the plant I want dead which takes about 24-48 hours. If you do get it on a wanted plant, wash it asap with soapy water and rinse the area around it with lots of water to dilute the stuff. And if you want to pull the stuff out, you got to get all the roots or it will come right back, the roots streach to China in most cases. I have never had a plant killed by bindweed but it wraps itself so tightly around my shasta daisys I donn't have to stake them! LOL.

We also have bind weed in the dogwood bushes. It twines its way up and there is no way to spray it without killing the bush. Early in spring, before the bushes leaf out, DH sprays and some does die, but most persist. I was reading an article in some magazine that had the suggestions of taking the end of the vine and putting it in a hole in the top of a jar. Inside the jar is filled with weed killer, thus eliminating the risk of overspray. In this method the vine is supposed to injest the wk and therefore die all the way back to the root. Because, as you probably have noticed, pulling this weed has no effect. I have yet to try jar method--too many other tasks, plus most remaining vines are showing themselves at the top of the bushes, where would the jar be placed? Just an idea I have read, fyi. Has anyone ever tried it???

I've read people using a ziploc baggie for the same technique you mentioned roseofkaren This is what I suggested to my neighbor and she is going to try it on the weed on one of the bushes to see if it affects the bush itself. Wish her luck. Thanks to everybody who responded.
