Lucky Me!

Minden, LA(Zone 8a)

I just had delivered to me a big dump truck load of black gold. A young man I know bought a building which had been used to grow red earthworms and had to clean out the dirt in it. It is gorgeous stuff and I had enough sense to buy some from him (5 loads of it) before it was gone) and now am trying to figure out how to use it. My garden is in full growth and bloom and I could use it to top dress over the pinestraw mulch , but I'd rather wait til Fall when I plan to move some of the plants and redo a bit. I know I need to cover it to keep it from spreading out and leaching until I use it. It's really hot here in Louisiana and that's a deterent also to using it right now.
It's black, crumbly and heavenly composted horsemanure I believe.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Pat

Pat, my suggestion is to bring some to NJ. Sorry I can't think of anything else. LOL Yes you are very lucky.

It's composted horse manure. Dare I use it straight, or should I 'cut' it with some dirt? And, how do I best utilize it? I'm new to the forum and have little experience with compost, except what my leaves/pinestraw make every year when I use them to dress the beds.

I really DO need some suggestions.

No, no...Bring it to Ohio. It's nice and cool up here, compared to Louisiana, anyway!

We can relax at the beach after we unload if you bring it here......

Naw, seriously it should be okay but you are getting lots of rain, right? Can you dig a little pit and cover it for now? Now that is a lot of compost to sit on in the rain!

There is also a soil forum you can try. I would think if its composted(not fresh) you can top dress with it, mix it in, whatever your heart desires.
I would suggest bagging it but Dang thats alot of manure, LOL. If you can cover it I think that would be best to help keep it from leaching too badly but whereever you have it now is sure gonna get alot of nice compost tea and start growing like crazy too.
Have fun.
