How many subscribers?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

It would be interesting to know how many subscribers there are as well as the # of members. Is this on the site somewhere? DH thinks you have done such a commendable job or organizing and running a site with the sheer amount of info that this one has. He has asked several times about the # of subcribers. Could we have this # along with population?

The number isn't published anywhere on the site.

At the moment, we have a total of 2,701 active subscribers on the site.

Thanks Dave. That is a % we need to work on improving. I would have thought there were more of us.

Northern California, CA

Hi Janice -

Are you reading my mind again.....asking questions I have been thinking about? LOL

Dave - It would also be interesting to know the distribution of members. By state, country perhaps?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

You can do that through the member pages. Pick a state, providence or country outside North America, then click on the link to "view only subscribers"

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

It seems to me that lately we have been getting subscribers at a faster rate, judging by the Welcome Newest Subscribers box down on the right.

I try to scan that daily and send a personal welcome to those close to my area.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I do the same thing as Darius ;o)

I also look for hints in their username as to what they're interested in: hostas, lilies, tomatoes, University of Tennessee, etc. *grin*) Seriously, a username can strike a familiar chord, even if they live halfway around the world - and it provides a way to introduce myself and find out a little more about them.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Terry, I know I asked this before but I never saw an answer-

Is there a way to make a hyperlink from the town name under a member's name that would pull up a Mapquest or Yahoo-type map showing where that town is in the state? For example, there is a new user in Shingletown, CA and I haven't the faintest where that is located.
Thanks.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Mmm, that's a Dave question ;o) I'm sure it's possible, but I don't know if he wants to (there may be system issues or copyright infringement/royalty issues involved if you tap into Mapquest or one of the others...)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Its just a novelty but thought that it could be fun- especially since I don't know where most towns are in most states!! I bet that I am not the only one LOL

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Daisy, I use this to figure out how far The Ca and AZ folks are from me and go from there.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh- thanks, that is cool but I wasn't trying to figure how long it would take to get to anyone! : )

I like seeing the BIG picture of where the state zones are and who is growing what from the bird's eye view, if you will. Does that make sense? For example, I am interested in the part of Alaska where weezingreens is in relation to water, Canada, mountains, etc. Holds true for just about anyone except those who live in really big places we all know.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

What I usually do is just copy and paste the person's city, state into google and almost always the first link that comes up is Mapquest location of that town. I click on that and choose to zoom out.
It is real easy with Mozilla Firefox Browser because I just highlight the city and state, right click it, choose "Search Web for..." and it opens in a new tab.

Edited because link didn't work.

I just wanted a 'one-click'.........

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Hopefully Dave can do it. In the mean time, I thought 2 clicks would help.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

No- Thanks, Sweezel! Didn't mean to seem ungrateful! I was doing basically what you are I think.

I don't think that Dave is interested in this, to tell you the truth! I just like maps, I guess!

Now I gotta go dream of a pool algae forum one day...sigh... : )

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

This is so weird. I hadn't noticed this thread, and was just outside wondering how many "actual subscribers" we had. Then "voila" I find this thread. Glad I did so I didn't start a new one, asking! :)

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm... Pool Algae. I don't know if I would ever be checking that one to tell you the truth. :)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Its a joke, Sweezel...... : )

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, come on... I don't have a pool and don't need to check that out, but there has to be plenty of others out there that would. Pool Algae, if I had a pool to observe it, would be mighty interestin'. I think you should try for it. I bet Dave would love to help you. :-pp

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Yeah- hey Dave- you aren't busy, right?! Can ya get on that one?

It will be like when you see the landscape forum, Sweezel! You'll be inspired and want one when you see how easy it is to grow something else green! LOL Even if its slime!

Yeah- hey Dave- you aren't busy, right?! Can ya get on that one?

Are you referring to the one-click access to your map, or a forum for pond algae?

dave

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

LOL!!! It was about the algae but it got you here! : )

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I thought it was a forum for "pool" algae. lol!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

Well, it is if you want it, Karrie!! Go on, ask for it. I'll back you up, girlfriend. ; P

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I don't think so, lol! Besides, I don't have a swimming pool or a pond!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

but it could inspire you!!LOL

My pool is a kiddie pool, FYI.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh! I used to have one of those - when Katie was tiny! I sat in it too! Had a good excuse! ;)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I have on occasion thought about jumping in my pond with the gold fish, to cool off. Since it's not a very big pond, I would probly displace a whole lot of water and fish. We don't have a pool either.

:^)))
Molly

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10b)

But you have algae, right, Molly??? See we COULD have an algae forum!

How about that one click map though...now there is an idea.
