Coral Bells

Royal Oak, MI(Zone 5b)

I need some help with info re: my coral bells. I do have several planted around my house that are doing excellant. However, I have five that are on a small berm in the front of my house facing south that are all brown and look like they are dying. I can't figure it out unless they are still getting to much sun even though they are protected somewhat by a large tree. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mmblackcat

You might want to ask this over in the Perennial Forum. Someone might be able to help you there.

mmblackcat, definitely too much sun! These plants like some shade, the east side of the house would be better-- moring sun and some shade from the hot afternoon sun. If you have to grow them in full sun, they need a good moisture retaining soil and possibly daily watering (although well-drained).

I found that some varieties are much more sun-sensitive than others-- Amber Waves and Marmalade in particular.

Also, Heuchera and Heucherella take more sun than Tiarella.

Hope this helps!

I had a green leaved heuchera(think it's Bressingham) in full sun for 4 years and it was only about a foot across. I split it, moved both to full shade and in one year they are both more than a foot wide. My purple palace heuchera is also in full shade and gets leaves wider than my hand. :)
