I will be posting pics the next few days on this post of some of the planters I do at work in Des Moines (zone 5) we plant about 600 pots and planters in the downtown area.I use tropicals, subtropicals, annuals, and exotics.See pics
Subtropical planters in Downtown, (DM)
How are these watered? Someone sort of like the lamplighters of old?
They are watered with a tank truck...by hand with watering wands.
Kyle, they are gorgeous. You really have the touch for putting things together to make them look great.
AAHhh brugie..you have always been my biggest fan.....((Kyle signing an autograph)) LOL It just comes naturally I guess..just arrange things in the planters till they FEEL right...does that make sense?? :-)
Gosh, this makes my stuff look pretty plain. Beautiful and so much color. I love it all. Next spring, I'm putting in a call to Norwalk.
Brugie...you got my number.........#1-800-plant my flowers!
LOL LOL :-)
Ahh, yes. I get to drive by alot of these everyday to and from work. It is so much better to feast your eyes on the different planters than the asphalt jungle. I check out their progress. A very lovely diversion when driving thru town.
Wow! Those are great. You are so talented! and downtown Des Moines is so lucky to have you. And what a neat job you have. Do you work for the state or a contracted firm?
I work for the city's Parks system. Civil service..
Fabulous Kyle!
They are versions of your home front garden. You have such flair, imagination and style.
I love them all.
On the down side~do you have a problem with losing plants to rustlers?
Kyle ... those are absolutely stunning. I have enjoyed your photos of this over the last 2-3 years, and they just keep getting better!
Wow they are all great! I think you need to come to my house and do mine. lol
Great job Kyle!! Keep em coming! It is like taking a walk around DM,except I am sitting in AC!!
Liz..public functions are the worst....always something going on downtown..the Art fest a week agao 250,000 people over 4 days......concerts,blues fests etc. People get drunk and crazy and tend to pull up plants. So do winos........ :-) We just fill in the planters with more to cover it up.
I did lose a whole banana tree last year at Nollen Plaza. They cut the top off one day and came back and dug up the roots a few days later on.
I wasn't thinking of partiers Kyle. I was thinking of people who really, really love the plants that you've put in the planters.
Your planters are so spectacular, certain nefarious types must have a field day.
Great job Kyle!!! LOL As I was looking at all the beautiful planters I was thinking to myself.....Hmmmmm....if I could just walk by there I'd be snipping a few cuttings for myself! Now I feel guilty! (Not really) I am so very impressed...keep the pics coming! I will save this and come back to it next spring for some wonderful ideas!
What an awesome mixture of color and texture. You really do have an eye for the art of container gardening. I would be mesmerized by the sheer beauty of them if I was walking downtown in your state. I would also kill to have a few of those planters in my yard!
Thanks for sharing those pictures. It gives me something to aspire to. Here's my attempt so far. As you can see, my containers need a bit more!
Maybe if I had your job my house would look like a normal person liived here. Love them!
Oh Kyle!! They look wonderful!!! Job very well done! How proud you must be. Gosh all we get here in downtown Denver is petunias, and when the city is feeling spunky, we get coneflowers! :o)
They look wonderful! You have the magic touch in arranging flowers.
Beautiful, just beautiful! Do you sub-contract out to Missouri? I would say you went way beyond civil service. You bring alot of joy to DM!
Peace park is just gorgeous; all of them are actually. Once again, I am going to steal your ideas for my pots. Just lovely!
I was wondering if you were going to show pictures this year...
Gorgeous as always......
Not boring! Not boring! (Oooo's and ahhh's can be heard from the crowd.) That is lovely.
Come north Eclipse....waaaaaaaaaaaaay far north!!! oh yes...bring plants with you too! ;)
Great looking flowers
KYLE! His flowers at
his home look just as
good as the ones
downtown & wait until
he posts the tropical
hibiscus he has planted
on the east side of DM.
Most of us has a green
thumb but KYLE's both
hands are green
