Downloadable PDB Search Bar?

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Dave, any thoughts about this?

Could it be an "extra" for subscribers? I think it would be invaluable, and definitely something I'd use. I'm sure others would too.

How would it be different from the one I use with Firefox?

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

It would only search the plants database, not the entire internet.

Yes, you can get it if you have Firefox. You can also get one that searches the Garden Bookworm.

Isn't that what the 'search' in the Dave's Garden menu box does? (not the 'Search the Site' box) I thought that's what I read somewhere and I have been using it to search the PDB.

I have a toolbar with Firefox that includes a search box. I type the term I want to search in the box, and scroll to choose where I want to search: Google, PDB, Bookworm. Just a bit handier than scrolling up & down the page to find the search link, plus I can leave the "term" in the search box and change the "where" of my search. It's pretty neat but I think you need Firefox to get it.

I'm talking about a bar that would stay on top of your browser, so no matter what website you were on, you could Search the PDB.

I have PDB in my links bar, I just thought a specific search bar would be neat.

I'm guessing you don't have Firefox. Everything you are describing is available.

Melissa_Ohio, we do have that feature available, but it's only available for Firefox users. What is your browser?

I've got both, IE and Mozilla can someone explain the feature and how to add it for me?

Sorry, I didn't realize that it was already available. Eileen, you must have been exasperated with me! I guess this must have been a blonde day. ;-)

Melissa_Ohio, neither IE or Mozilla are supported. Mozilla is not the same thing as Firefox.

If you have Firefox, go to this page:

http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php

and click on "Add the PDB Search to your Firefox browser!". If that link does not appear for you, then you don't have a supported browser.

best,

Melissa, it's really cool and apparently just what you're looking for! I, in all of my computer illiteracy, managed to "put" Firefox on my computer AND then add the PDB search bar. Bonus: did not mess up computer in the process. Try it, you'll like it :)

I've been using Firefox for about 3 months now, Melissa. It's really nice and has lots of Add-Ins you can download too, in addition to the PDB & GW search bars. If you're interested in trying it here's the download site for it. It's free.

I also use the companion Email client - Thunderbird (it's referenced on the bottom of the page I linked above).

Thats fabulous! I just downloaded it and it will be such a help. Thanks for asking Melissa and thanks for doing it Dave.
