Blood trails

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Gracious... Have you ever done something really stupid in front of other people, but you were embarassed and didn't want to show that you were in pain? Yes, of course you have.

Well, it just happened to me tonight. My husband was drilling holes for me in some landscape timbers so that I could nail them down and make a pathway. His brother shows up and while we're working, I end up stepping on the drill bit. Hey, no problem. I can act like it's no big deal. The only problem was that I was leaving a blood trail as I walked away. :) Yes, they noticed.

Ok, yes, it hurt. Was I going to let two guys see me hobbling? NO WAY. I'm not stubborn, either. It's a pride thing. :)

Oh OUCHY! I wish I didn't understand exactly what you mean!

Lamar, AR(Zone 7a)

hahaha

Funny!! But poor you!

Ouch is right. I hope you're up to date with your tetanus shot.

Mercer, PA(Zone 5a)

Oh my Carla, I'm sorry to hear about your little accident. To bad they noticed the blood trail, you might have been able to get away with nothing more than a drill bit stuck in your foot.
;~0

I hope you put some medication on it, and maybe one of those cute band aids with a picture of Snoopy or Mickey Mouse on it.

Ok, at the urging of another DG member, I'm posting a picture of the drill bit that attacked me.

HOLY COW!! That thing is armed and dangerous.
I too understand the pride thing when all you want to do is jump up and down and scream, sigh, but if you think about it, in my experience when my big hunka testosterone man gets hurt I think he whines more than my kids. Of course he makes sure there is no other man around first. LOL
Cant help but love him when he gives me those puppy dog eyes and the booboo lip.

Edited to remove "Lesson # 1" and say...

I'm terribly sorry that you stepped on such a thing!!

Honey that is a spade bit! Craig was holding our drill by the cord on Mother's Day right after he put some holes in some timbers. Yep, it swung right back, scalding hot and stabbed him in the leg. You should have seen the blood!

Ps. I got the couch. :)

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Ok, now I want some sympathy. I had to go to the DR today as it's starting to look icky. Dumb thing is getting infected. Joy, now I'm on antibiotics. Not only that, but I was lucky enough to get a DR that wants to be thorough, so I got a Tetanus booster, too.

Can you hear my husband in the background going "Wear shoes...wear shoes...." :)

I grew up in the country...what are shoes?

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

That is not funny. That thing is a monster bit. But look at it this way, at least your tetanus is up to date. Now, get in Dinu's herbal medicine chest and get you some arnica cream on that thing!

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

I am so sorry you are having to go through all that pain and misery. Take care of yourself and maybe it will clear up rapidly.

A story like that is enough to make me feel queezy and almost enough to make me want to wear shoes....almost!!!
I hear the, "Put some shoes on" bit all the time. DH is always afraid I am going to get hookworms, glass, nails, bee stings and any other of those lurking in the grass things that are there to attack us barefoot folks. No spirit of adventure....That is what I say. This is a former farm boy I am talking about here. ....a cotton chopping, cotton pickin' Louisiana farm boy. Wonder what went wrong!!! He wears shoes all the time!!!! Well not in the tub or in bed but all the rest of the time.

Carla, I'm so sorry you had this accident. And even more sory that it got infected. I'll leave the shoe issue alone. I'm a real tenderfoot who doesn't even go barefoot in the house!

I can remember when tetnus shots were annual and all of our determined to go barefoot children got one every spring just to be on the safe side.

Alternating hot and cold soaks will help to improve the circulation and get the area healing faster. 5 minutes warm/hot, 2-3 cold ending with cold. It will reduce inflammation and ease the discomfort too.

Carla, sorry to hear of your tragic encounter with the notorius and predatory 'spadebiticus ouchius'. Hope the healing process is quick and effective.

Oh, you guys crack me up! :) I'm doing much better already. The doctor actually wanted me to wear socks and tennis shoes. The nerve of him. :) I told my husband I would compromise. I went out and bought new sandals that hadn't been grungy, left out in the rain or muddied up and I'd wear those.

Do people really wear socks? :)

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

They do when it is cold, Carla. ...or when you might get blistered heels from wearing those danged shoes.

Sad but true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When it is cold, I do resort to socks in the house instead of SHOES! My feet can move better that way. Feet need freedom, don't you think?

Carla, I'm sorry it's infected but I'm glad you went to the doctor. I too wear socks AND shoes. I hope it heals quickly.
