SC / NC - Everyone OK?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Well, the weather channel just *barely* covered it , but is everyone ok? Had a horrendous storm at my house - winds, and probablly a micro-burst in my little town near Greenville. Reports say many still without power this morning - had a big oak tree fall, taking power lines with it, just up the street from my house. There were two storms- one that was ugly, and windy, and the second, about 45 minutes later, that was about five times worse ...

I'm thankful to have a house today, and that the only damage at my place is a bent flagpole and a toppled weeping pussy willow tree. I'm sad to have lost the tree (broke right at the ground), but I'm thankful to have a home that's still in one piece.

Ugly ugly ugly weather. Loooking for all the SC / NC folks in the storm's path to check in - - - -

Not in the Carolinas, but we got caught in what I suspect was a small tornado yesterday in northern mid-state. We were driving around a large lake, and the farther we went, the worse the storm got. We finally pulled over and waited for the worst to blow over (not fun in a vehicle that's been buffeted hard by the wind!) and when we doubled back, the same route had numerous downed tree limbs, debris scattered everywhere, and sheared off tree stumps. A little scary to realize we had probably crossed right in front of the storm's path. (Would have been nice if the radio stations had given listeners some weather advisories!)

Hope the Carolina folks are all fine!!!!

Mom hasn't checked in yet. She and her quilter buddies are on top of a mountain in Western NC. Somewhere near Ashville.

I may check in on them if I haven't heard anything by noon.

It was one of the scariest storms I've experienced in a long time. When the power went out, I took my cat and went to the basement for a couple of hours. Damage everywhere I went today, but saw no TV coverage. Closest stations are Atlanta and Chattanooga, and the newspaper is a weekly. We had a small tornado 2-3 weeks ago and there was no coverage of it, either.

Melody, I know this storm hit hard north of here in the Nantahala Gorge and Lake areas, and east towards Franklin and Maggie Valley. Don't know about Asheville.

Edited to add that KY and central & eastern TN is getting hammered right now with severe thunderstorm alerts, damaging winds and 2-inch hail and we'll probably get some of it too. Only 80 miles to Knoxville and about the same to Chattanooga.

darius - That's what I say .... Stupid weather programs.

I have satellite TV, and as if that isn't frustrating enough to have the TV go out anytime it's really inclement weather... finally getting the TV to work, and watching the stupid "weather channel" talk about rain in TN, ignoring that there's a severe TStorm warning in Greenville Co, SC. GRR! Last night the local news finally covered how bad the storms really were over my way. Yesterday a.m. they mentioned "bad storms" and "heavy rain" in Greenville city proper, but didn't mention my end of the valley. :(

Chance of more ugly TStorms again tonight. One of the national-known weather guys was on the radio channel I listen to this morning, saying "better chance of 'em today than yesterday".. oh goodie.

Allie and I will be inside, doing laundry, and hiding from the weather, should anybody choose to join us. :)
