What's a good website for driving directions...?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Howdy Folks...
I seem to use Mapquest all the time but sure would like a good alternative to use for judging distances, scenic roads vs Interstate highways and such. It seems like a few other "directions" sites offer less than what mapquest does, however, sometime in the past I linked up to a real good one and now can't re-discover it.

Is there a particular mapping site any of ya'll can recommend?

Much obliged!

Horseshoe: Yahoo maps is good also.

heheh....Eyes, I don't know how to drive with shoes on, can't feel the pedals! (Plus my truck probably won't know it's me driving it and who knows what would happen then!)

GW...my Bro is up here visiting from Fla. Rode his Harley up (first time we've seen each other in 15 years). When he left last Thursday to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway he had an accident and now can't ride his bike home. I drove 500 miles (round trip) on Saturday to go pick him and the bike up, and had to mapquest it help figger out times and such. Now we are trying to figger out how to get him and bike home to Florida. (I can't be gone that long from here to take him myself.)

Sooo....I was trying to determine a halfway point and get someone from his town to meet us there with a trailer so I could transfer both him and the bike over and get them home.

Still trying to decide right now. Might have to send him home on a plane.

Know any truckers that might have some room left that are heading that way? Would be inexpensive, I'd think.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Gosh, is he okay?

Howie and I were just looking to see where the half-way point between Newark and Thibodaux, LA is. Looks like the Chattanooga, TN area would be a good spot.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I use a Microsoft software program called Streets and trips - its wonderful! It automatically goes online and checks for road construction when you plug in a drive you are going to take. It will tell you what hotels and restaurants and special sites are in the area you will be arriving (great for vacations) - and tons of other stuff.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Shoe, where in Florida? When we make the trip from Miami to Hendersonville, Kings Bay Georgia is our halfway stop. It's just north of Jacksonville, south of Brunswick GA. Of course that's where my grandson's sub is stationed, so we kill two birds with one stone. *grin*

Is he able to drive himself? If so, maybe just renting a van would do the job, you could just put the bike in the back. That might be cheaper than a plane ticket, plus the bike would arrive with him.

Northport, ME(Zone 5b)

Shoe, is your bro OK? I have dumped a HD on the highway. My bike got the worst of it. So is the bike un-rideable or your bro disabled? I guess I can't offer much from down-east, but I hope he's OK. Frank

'Shoe, "Maps On Us" allows you to get driving directions and also to allow for intermediate stops and sightseeing and so forth.

Under "Driving Directions," choose the "More driving directions options" link under the boxes.

I haven't used this one in a while. Like you, I usually use MapQuest. Hope that helps.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Jean...that one sounds similar to one I once used cause it sounds like it gives you options (more than mapquest). I'll save that to my Maps Favorites. Thanks!

Frankay...yes he's fine, other than a broken wrist and a few brazes. (Wrist is the throttle wrist so even if the bike was fixed he couldn't drive it.) He was lucky, only doing 20 mph or so around a wet curve. (Turns out there have been over 80 accidents on that curve, both cars and motorcycles. We went back and took pics of the car parts/motorcycle parts that were there.)

Mary...we thought of that, too! Rental places (even u-haul) only rents vans for in-town use. To rent for out of town you have to rent a big truck ($800). Ugh!
Nice software you got Cattknapp! If I traveled more I'd have to check more into that! Sounds like fun!

So...thanks for all the help Folks! I found a ticket home fairly cheap so he is flying out this afternoon to Tampa and a friend will pick him up there and take him home (Sarasota). (Not as far down the state as you are Pati!)

He is leaving just in time I reckon...gonna be a muggy 97 degrees here tomorrow!
