Introducing myself

Killingworth, CT

Hi there. I live in CT and have just recently begun to familiarize myself with this site. I have gardened for about 25 years now, and I guess have earned my nickname "peatmoss patty" by now! lol I have a small gardening services business that I run but am currently cutting back on the number of accounts I have. Time to stay home and care for my gardens and home for a while - hehe I cannot wait!! I'm really excited about it. Hope to make new friends here in the near future. The Garden-nerd, Patty

Hello patty!
You will love Dave's Garden, with all the great information and good friends. I went to my first round-up this year down in Forsyth GA. I live in NC mtns. and it was about a 4-hour drive. It was a lot of fun. We traded plants, ate a lot, and just talked and laughed. We also drove over to Juliette, Ga and ate Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe (from the movie, Fried Green Tomatoes). When I came home, my stationwagon looked like a rolling greenhouse!
The round-ups are held all over the country in spring and fall. Just check the round-up forum.
I used to have an aunt and uncle living in Windsor Locks. He worked for one of those big insurance companies. He raised dahlias and took them to a lot of shows; they were gorgeous. I still have GLASS slides of many of them.
One year, there was a drought in Connecticutt, and a hiatus on using water for gardens and washing cars. My aunt used her dish water on her roses. In those days, soap had a lot of phosphates in them. Her roses never bloomed so beautifully as that summer, lol.

Welcome Patty!!!
You'll really enjoy DG. It's not only a great gardening site for info, but there are so many great members who check the site daily and can help you with about any question you have. I love the chat rooms on Tues. and Thurs. as I love to "talk shop" with all the gardeners across the US and the world. I'm sure you'll find that this is one of the best sites you've ever visited.

Welcome, Patty, from NC, too.

I've been here since last August. Just browsed through the forums and fell in love. Now I'm getting a little braver and responding sometime. So much fun. The folks here are like
family, really.

I have seen so much love and concern shown and sweet personal relationships developed. You don't have to feel bad about asking any questions at all and get warm, helpful responses. I am really just beginning to play in the yard, since retirement and trust the tried & true words of wisdom and experience. Have a great time here.

Barbara

Edited to say the forums are so varied and interesting.

Barandy is exactly right-you are in the right place!!! The only problem is you have to make yourself get off the computer to go and actually garden (ha)..You'll feel like you just made thousands of new friends without even trying!!

Hiya Patty,
You'll really enjoy DG. It's not only a great gardening site for info, but there are so many different forums for just about any interest you have. Be careful though, it's addicting and once you are here ya don't want to leave.:)

Stop by the Pets,Houseplants,Tropical or the Brug forum and say hi to some of the friendliest folks on DG's.
