What's Up?

Janie, the pink flowers are hibiscus of some sort, I think. There's a stretch near my old employer on SR79 south of Heath where they grow.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Actually, Janie, my success with Roses is sporadic and in spite of myself. More to do with accidental good choices rather than any knowledge. Other than they like banana peels which I chop and soak before distributing water and all, because here in desert stuff turns into fossils before it can rot. Banana tea... also do manure tea once in a while when they look particularly bedraggled.

But all over town there are Roses of every color shape and size. I have a dozen struggling along because tree shade got bigger or sun is too hot against back west fence - whatever, I never seem to find time early enuff to move them before the heat of summer arrives in June. Maybe I'll move the whole shooting match come fall.

In the spring two of my successes are my Pleasure floribunda and its neighbor Tropicana with it's skirt of wild red rose. Just lucky choices. ....and I meant I envied the loosestrife actually not so much the stores.

Hibiscus, really, GW? I've always thought they were some sort of a sweet pea thing. Either way I'd love some. One day I'm going to stop and get some I swear.

I have these pathetic roses that I don't know what to do with, they really should have a home where someone knows what to do with them. I should offer them for trade in the roses forum to someone who could bring them back to life and want to take on such a project. It won't be easy!

GW I've offered some pachysandra on freecycle - if someone wants to come and cut it out of my raised bed on the side of the house. The job is too hard for me and I figure if someone wants it for free they can come and cut it. :) Maybe there will be a taker or two. And make a new friend? I hope. DH hates exposing us to new people. He's very paranoid.

I had a woman from near Dresden come out and dig up some starts of things around our yard. She'd posted saying she was new to gardening and wondered if anyone had starts of plants she could have.

Well,
Decided to cut my hair tonight. It was past my bum- I lopped it off to just under my shoulders. By the time mum fixes me mess it will be much shorter,LOL. Oh well- it gets tiring taking care of a mop in this darned heat!

Couldnt find scissors- so I used a knife,LOL.

GW- I wish people would come around here and ask for plants- I guess Imma have to go ring doorbells to make new friends. LOL

crimsontsavo,
Congratulations on your new freedom! I remember having thick hair that was down below my knees. I pulled it into a ponytail one night and cut it off 3 inches from the top of my scalp. I ended up with a very uneven shag haircut that was such a relief that I didn't quit grinning for a month!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

LOL thanks Zany!!!
It looks like a two year old got to my hair!!! hehe. Hope you got your evened out, hehe.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Nope! It is still an uneven mess 20 years later...Bob keeps trying to hide the scissors but I keep buying more :~)

Well, after taking some DGer advice, I have literally turned over a new leaf.
I tipped my water hyacinth over on it's head in hope that it will force it to bloom! Hehehehe

Ohhhhh the hummingbirds are being such sparkly pests! They get angry when mum and I walk in 'their' gardens. hehe.

Ohhhhhhhh our (didnt know we had these!) Flowering Tabacco smells so wonderful! It's a pretty creamy white petunia looking thing. Smells up the whole porch with just a few blooms! Definately gotta save some seeds for next year!
Anyone else grow Flowering Tabacco?

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Hey Crims, how about a shot of you and the new 'doo'

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Hehehe Bal- mum hasnt fixed it yet! LOL When it isnt so raggedy I'll ask Ginger to snap a shot of me. Man life is so much lighter now! LOL
I'm thinking a BBQ is in order to celebrate. Hmm... BBQ wolfdog-hehe, cut down on the kibble bill.
Even Ginger hasnt seen it yet! LOL

Flowering tobacco is probably my favorite scented plant. We had one overwinter at the base of our dryer vent this last winter and had blooms April 7, waaaay early for them. http://davesgarden.com/t/410598/

Normally, we can't put these plants out until mid-May, and the ones that come up from seed naturally don't start coming up until June. It was such a treat!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Ohhh arent they yummy? Just two blooms permeate the garden! I wonder if moths like them? I have never seen these at a garden center- are they that uncommon?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Garden centers around here tend to sell the shorter hybrids, ones I've found have little scent. Daylight sensation is the one I have, plus nicotiana 'Alata', which I received in a trade. The latter is white, should get fairly tall (3-4') and is very fragrant.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

I must have dwarfed mine,LOL. Poor foliage looks bad- but the flowers are so nummy.
