Have we done this yet?
I made this thread to for chatty posts. Like when you don't want to start a whole thread for one comment or you really wanna just talk. :-)
I'll start.
Well, I should weed the garden- it's taken over by Wire Grass.
I keep telling mum that it is just a "naturalized garden". She isnt buying it.
Still saving for that woofy enclosure. Going in for the long haul I guess! lol Well, at least my drawn plans are looking more professional!
Works going great, but man is it HOT working out in the sun all day. Dori told me to come in early so it would be cooler- thinks I'm going to take her up on that offer next week.
The infamous "1 inch bonsai" is still waiting to be photographed. I hear tell at least one person on DG thinks I'm weaving a web of bonsai deceit! Well we shall see about that! Muhahahahhaa! *waggles brows at a certain someone*. ;-)
Still waiting to see that brug that was won at the Florala swap. The one that is "one of a kind" in America. You know the one I'm talking about... has it bloomed yet? Thinks you should just send it to me. ;-) Make sure it will grow and be healthy and all that...
Really have to get to Weeds house and help her with the bog garden- she's gonna shoot me if'in I don't hurry!
Well, that's all for now. I gotta get to bed before work comes a callin`.
What's up?

What's Up?
You have my curiosity on that wee lil bonsai! What "tree" or plant are you using? Are you growing it in a thimble?
I mowed the grass today...that took about 3 minutes in my bonsai size yard. It takes longer to plug in the weed eater to wow it with than it does to mow. But it fills the whole area with the smell of fresh cut grass and I think that is about the nicest smell on the planet.
The patio is a disaster right now. I hate being indoors this time of year so I set up everything I need out here. I have my lap top going on a tray table, My old PC on the patio table so I can work on it and get it ready to go to my folks, the camp stove and the bbq grill so I can cook out here and OFF mosquito lanterns everywhere.
I'm with you on the smell of fresh cut grass Zanny. If there is a smell for everyone in heavan that will be mine.
I got to come back into work toninght because of miss information being given. So here I set waiting on the information that I should of had a week ago. Oh well what else would I be doing right now.
Well, you could be home with GW and sharing a glass of tea or lemonade...or you could be cuddling with GW and the dogs/cats and watching a movie...but at least you get to be on line while you wait!
Glad to know I am not alone in my love of that smell. I enjoy it more than all the flowers. It just makes everything smell clean and fresh somehow. Too bad they can't make dryer sheets that would make my bedding smell like cut grass. Now that would be a soothing aroma therapy to fall asleep to and wake up to as well!
Hey tsavo...when ya going to Weeds? I could probably run you in to save her a trip..then she'd only have to return you. Bill is doing a patio cover there..I went by yesterday to run him to the Dr. and Connie gave me a jar of gourd seeds. Do you want some? give me a call.
I make it a habit to thank God everytime I smell the fresh cut grass. May sound corny but I figure somthing so good should not go unpraised. I got off early tonight and came home and cut our grass. Funny how you can never smell it when you are doing the cutting. At least I can't.

I could smell it, intermingled with gasoline engine smells! ;)
I think the power of the mower overrides the smell until you turn it off. I noticed when I used a push mower I smelled it as I worked and when I use the electric weed wacker I smell it. But the power mower seems to hide it from my senses until I am done.
And no, it doesn't sound corney to me at all. It is the same way I feel when I look at a tree or a flower unfold or watch a bumble bee flit about with pollen covering it's legs and I marvel at this world the Maker created and gave us dominion over. And the smell of new mown grass is one of those wonders. It far surpasses any bottled fragrance and is more pleasant than the sweet smell of a rose or lilac to me.
I guess I need to make GW go roll in the grass after I'm done cutting. It does smell better then any bottled fragrance.
SEND PICTURES, HOWIE! We have had an intimate view of her feet, now the rest!!!!!! LOL
Pati
LOL I will be there with the camera if she does it.
'GW' always makes me see her as some kind of British secret agent. lol
My favorite smell is the smell of someone having a real wood fire on the first crisp autumn day! :) :) :)
My favorite smell is Peanut Butter Fudge...in a BIG tin...just for me!! LOL Jo
I'm Dobble-Yew. Geee Dobble-Yew.
My favourite smell is supper that I didnt have to cook. :D hehe
Fresh cut grass is so nice. :-)
Right now I'm trying to figure the dog pen out.
I have about 660 ft to buy posts for and fence. The nieghbour guy is fencing one side- i''m doing the middle and the other sides are already fenced.
Thats gonna be roughly 3 1/2 acres for the dogs. TWO dogs mind you- LOL spoiled little crappers.
Fighting fleas still- they are AWFUL and Tez looks bad. We think having that much room the fleas will "regulate" and stop being such pests. *PRAYING*:-(
Just gave Tez and Dolly a bath. We'll see what happens.
Goind to walmart to buy flea drops too. They didnt work on Abu- but I think they worked on Tez and Dolly last time.
FLEAS!!!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhh
Sitting here in lawn envy. :-P We have a beautiful unique ~Floridian Sandy Acres~. LOL! If you dont count the wire grass that is.... hehe
Floppy (the cat) is too terrified to go outside by himself. He apparently has a "kitty stalker" that's trying to kill him. (another tom cat,LOL!)
Well, that's all for now. :-)
Did I mention we hate fleas?
Grrr fleas!!! Now we have hardwood floors and ceramic tile but when I was raising Samoyeds (silly us) I had carptet. Rogue, my one mail Sam was allergic to fleas! Ever seen a full grown Sammie allergic to fleas? Not a pretty sight! Poor guy, my heart just ached for him. I had to vaccuum 3 times a day to quote the vet "get all the eggs". Yah right. Finally I gave him an Oatmeal bath and got an Ovatrin (sp) collar - made all the difference in the world. At one point poor Roguie had a punk cut zigzagging all over his body, and his belly looked like hamburg. Sorry to be so graphic but it was just horrid for the sweet fellow. The bath and the Ovatrin collar did the trick or maybe somebody just heard me muttering unrepeatable words about fleas and took pity on me!
Good luck with your battle.
Dianne
Thank you so much Dianne- it's nice to know someone else went through the same thing we are. It's rough and poor Tez gets the brunt of it.
I'm just gonna truly set myself to bathe him everyday until I get some meds- then I'm going to treat the whole area with whatever. Might not be "good for the skin" but it's better than flea bites.
His side looks like hamburger where he scratched it. It isnt bleeding but he has sores.
When we get the other pen built it will hopefully get better. Dolly lost a little hair on her side from scratching- but looks fine otherwise.
I tell you what- I can't think of a dog before tez we had that had a problem with fleas!
I'll look into that collar- and an oatmeal bath- that I can definately do! I'll mix some powdered milk in with it. Thanks for that idea!
Samoyeds are such pretty loafs!
The Ovtirin collar really worked well but then I switched to Advantage. Considering I live in the boonies surrounded by wetlands and lakes on 3 sides it has worked miracles. No Fleas, no ticks, no nothing! The key is to treat for several days in the area especially where they sleep so you can get all the stages of the flea cycle. I hate vaccuuming at the best of times but poor Roguie was in such distress I HAD to do it.I added a bit of aloe to the oatmeat mixture and that seemed to help "smell" and skin dryness wise.
Poor babies and poor you!
D
Honestly Jocelyn, the drops that you get at the store do nothing. The Frontline(or Advantage or whatever) that you get from the vet works wonders!
Ditto on ecobioangie's post. I went the Wallyworld route too. Nothing! Think those fleas thought it was a treat! Got the Frontline from the vet and bye bye fleas! Vet told me they actually have to have a permit to sell that stuff because of the concentration of the poison. Good Drugs!!!
We've used Sentinel flavortabs for several years now. They get one pill a month (our girls can split the large dog size) and it does heartworm, fleas, roundworms, hookworms & whipworms.
GW how much does that cost? Is it by prescription only?
I didnt wanna use pesticides again- but if the fleas are so bad, why not use the pesticides?
It is by prescription only, yes. Our vet was within a few dollars' cost of getting it online and I'd rather support him than hassle with getting an Rx and going elsewhere just to save a few bucks. Let's see, a six-pill package for dogs 50-100lbs is $67 there. Like I said, our girls split a dose so this lasts them both the whole six months.
TY GW- that isnt too bad at all.
I found a vet VIA a local feed store- he might treat wolfdogs. From what the lady told me he is just the greatest thing since sliced bread. Supposed to be reasonable in price too.
I gotta find his number!
Dr.Bob I think his name is. LOL
I am getting a big kick about how this thread has spiraled from weeding to fleas. One and the smae sort of - both are pests.
Jocie you really would be wise to follow GW"s advice re Sentinel. I personally use the Advantage but that is what my vet recommends. It sure works. Only thing is I had to make sure the little stinks don't spit out their pill when they get it. Try to figure who did the spitting! Alot easier now I only have 2 dogs and Advantage is a lovely chewable tablet - still Storm has been known to spit it across the room if he doesn't feel like he wants to eat it at that moment.
When I was doingthe whole treatment thing with shampoo, the Ovitrin collars which are very expensive it actually worked out cheaped and far more effective to go the Advantage/Sentinel route.
Good like with the fleas. Do they bite you too - they love me! That's how I used to be clued in the one of my Sammie's had them - hard to see the little critter thourgh all that hair. Hugs to Taz and Dolly. How many pups do you have left?
Dianne
We use the Sentinel for mine. They have the flavor tabs so the dogs think they are getting a tiny bit of cookie. Baby, my oldest has been on the pills for many years now and as soon as we got Snowy, she went on them.
The only time we have a real problem anymore is when another dog moves in close by and brings "unsterile" fleas or a stray cat spends too much time in the yard (With a greyhound in the house and yard, cats don't seem to linger long). We get a rash of itching around here until the new fleas get sterile and die. Because my dogs are now extremely allergic to fleas, I then have to use the allerspray to avoid hot spot outbreaks.
BTW, my Vet will cost match for the online meds stores.
:^)))
Molly
Me too, Dianne! That's how I know we've got a problem - bites on me! They itch for 3 weeks for more - man I hate them!
I don't know why it is but our dogs here in Southern Arizona aren't bothered by flea....maybe it's the hot, dry climate...??? My dogs had them very badly in Florida and in Virginia Beach. Maybe God thought we had enough "dangerous critters" to deal with and let us by pass those! Jo
Well, I read somewhere fleas like damp areas?
Whatever they like- I wish they would just die! LOL
They spread worms. :-( Yuck.
yes they bite me! I had to bomb my bedroom cause BooBear sleeps in it. It was disgusting!
First I had to move the birds- ban boo from the room and take care of the aquarium. Well- NO more fleas in the room!
I only had to spend 1.00 on a can of bomb too. It was at the Dollar Tree. hehe.
I'll get in touch with that Dr.Bob or whatever his name is.
We should all sign a petition to erradicate fleas from the earth forever! LOL
Oh my Boss Dori- she is so cool!
Yesterday while she was in Dothan (thursday is Fish Day!) she bought me ANOTHER koi! It's a pretty platinum/yellow one. You know the ones that when you look down on them they look like skeletons? Really cool. It was under $5.00 too!
Where do you work?
Bonsai by Dori. :-) It's a really great place! Dori and her husband are just Gems!
What do you do there?
Yep, that's a fact roadrunner. No fleas in the desert. Way too hot and to dry. But we have the no seeums that bite the dogs as well as me. Got bit last month and ended up in the ER to get some kind of IV treatment. Then they put me on prednizone for a week. I guess I'm just bug illtolerant. My poor dog has the same problem. They are almost like little Knats but you don't hear or see them, therefor, noseeums!
Hotter then haties here and I am constantly running around to make sure that none of my precious plants are suffering.
Hey Jo, when you gonna come and see me? I've got some hearts and flowers for you or do you want me to come to your place. Give me a call.
OHHHH I love those plants...and No-see-ems are not only here they LOVE Florida!! I'll call you this week end....Jo
Eco- I do Bonsai. Trim and pot-etc.
I also weed, help put up fencing and stuff like that.
Mostly I trim Bonsai. :-)
NoSeeums SUCK!!! They are gosh awful in Michigan! Yuccky.
Okay Crimsontasvo, mabe you can help to tell me what to do to trim up my Bosai umbrella plant. Please! I have it posted in the Bonsai forum but no one has offered me any suggestions. I just don't know where to begin.
I'll go look now!
I finally found some gooseneck loosestrife for my garden. I was so thrilled you can't believe. YAYY!!!! Home Depot had it all alone amongst a bunch of other stuff like Daylilies. I also found some wonderful other stuff - my garden is really filling out now and I'm thrilled.
I haven't had time to put it in yet but I am so excited to have found a way to mark my plants. My local craft store had little signs for sale 50 percent off the sale price which made them a quarter apiece... and they were so cute. I'll post a pic of some of them once I get them done. I'm going to write on them with paint pens. That should make them pretty permanent, or at least they should last a few years, long enough for me to be able to at least remember where I planted perennials that disappear in the winter time - till I either figure out a more permanent method or my mind gets around it and I remember! (the mind thing is not likely)
We are stepping around a big mess of papers because DH had to find papers for his re-application for work. He has to re-apply every 2 years. What a heart thumper that is. Yuck.
Then he waits to see if he is re-hired and that could be six months or more. Lovely.
The insurance company sent my surgery to appeal, so I'm going to postpone it till late September. Maybe by then the doctor and the insurance co. can get their &^$@* together so I don't have to pay out of pocket. Hopefully I don't get any more infections in the meantime. I just didn't want to have it hanging over my head all that time. It was driving me crazy and enough things do that in life.
Tsavo, it sounds like your bonsai are wonderful. I wish you were here to weed for me. My entire back yard is in need of someone young and spry to help me make it the paradise I know it could be. I am trying to make it a natural wildflower preserve using only native flowers for Northeast Ohio... not difficult since so many things grow here naturally.
I yanked out the most beautiful Queen Anne's Lace from the median in an ugly neglected parking lot today... and transplanted her in my wildflower garden. :) She seemed happy to be put in a place of honor amongst the wild strawberries, sweet annie, and buttercups.
Well good night folks... tomorrow is worship! I always look forward to church.
Also - happy 4th of July!
Hooray!
JJ wish I had your Lowes - i'd so love a gooseneck. And I love that you rustled a neglected "weed" to it's proper home.
Hey, Blooms -I just checked out your picture and you and I have matching pink cups! Mine was a gift from my dear friend who now lives in Orlando. My heart goes out to you having lived where God watered for you and now a drought. Yuck.
Are you really good with roses? I have a couple that have been struggling and I don't know what to do with them. Maybe you can bring them back to life in UT?
We ended up playing hooky from worship but it was worth it in the end . For some reason my FIL went a little weird on me but I decided not to let it bother me too much if I can help it. Somehow I seem to draw people's weirdness. I just am made this way I guess.
I do love Lowes and Home Depot. I haven't been to Lowe's yet to see what they have on sale. Also need to check KMart - their stuff is probably all on sale and looking really shabby to most folks like it can't be saved.
I am getting more and more inclined to stopping and yanking out wildflowers (weeds) from places and bringing them home. I know I could probably get in trouble but the older I get the more likely it is I could get away with it. I don't think most people would mind me pulling a weed out of a ditch - I am longing for those pink flowers that grow in Ohio ditches and byways and the wild phlox that grow everywhere except in my own yard.
As I type here I am getting a whiff of my sweet annie plant coming in the window by the computer.
Good night all...
