Do any of you know how to keep bats out of the house? We covered holes that we could find and each time we thought we had them all we found more. The last was 3 years ago. But we are getting bats again. HELP!!!!! Jnette

Wow, I can't believe this message went unanswered for two years now. LOL

I am responding because we are having the same problem, only the bats
are coming in through our chimney! We finally caught the little booger late last
night.

Those creepy clicking sounds they make are something, aren't they? When we
saw his teeth I was completely creeped out right before bed!

Hard to see, but he is the black spot on the curtain.

HI, bats can get in through the smallest of openings. In this area, there is a company that can use lighting to force bats out, check where they come out and fill the openings.....all for only a few thousand dollars.
Have had success with opening the door to the outside and turning all the houselights on-bat will head for darkness.
Would recommend that you have someone cover your chimney with tight cap of something like hardware cloth.
Good luck. We have lots of bats here, as we have bugs up the wazoo., so I am quite used to them.

Hi Marcia!

Oh, we don't mind the bats. Just not in the house. Ha ha!

I remember Ellen Degeneres talking about a bat in her house one day.
It was funny!

A typical little brown bat can eat up to 650 mosquitoes AN HOUR.

Yep, bats are my friends.

Wish I had heard her story..she is a stitch. We have Loads of mosquitos (WI state insect ) and no see umms etc. etc. Lots of food for the bats and the wrens this season. We are well guarded day and night; plus I am really quick with my swatting hand.

okie dokie...i have the solution....we had bats in my store......hundreds of them....keep your eyes peeled for the solution....will type it in just a sec....will be long...

Crosbyton, TX(Zone 7a)

so we had hundreds of bats .......we called all over to get a solution...bats are protected here in texas by the bat conservation group....so killing them wouldn't be had....; we finally had several groups contact us....the way to get rid of them...humanely, and will not leave a stench for you....is called the method of 'exclusion'.....litereally that is what it is called....method of exclusion.....what you do is locate where they get in....; to do that you have to find out where they get out.....they will leave at dusk to go to get food.....so if you have located where they are ......post yourselves in a location close to that and watch them leave....they will be flying out.....we had hundrends that left at several shifts around dusk.....(also you have to be careful cause if you close up the space and you still have bats in there it will kill them and leave a HUGE stench.....they leave in shifts ....some skip days when they exit....so not all exit the same day.....anyway, once you locate where they exit you will need to purchase mesh screening......like that on screen doors.....you will secure the screening at the top of the piece....you will not secure the screening any other place but at the top.....that way bats will be able to exit.....BUT they will not be able to enter again.....; so several nights may be necessary to watch to see the bats leave.....when you observe that no more bats are leaving that particular place then is the time to close the place up....we used steel wool.....but we literally had to wait like a week to make sure no more bats were in the place where we observed them exiting.......

after you have secured a entry/exit point, begin the hole process again.....we had several entry and exit places.....and these were little tiny places we would have never guessed that anything could get in.....anyway, good luck, ....we were successful in ridding ourselves of bats.....they moved 2 stores down into the bank...(he he)......we no longer have the bats...

If you have bats in your house, late summer is the only time of year to exclude them responsibly. Most of us appreciate the importance of bats, they're protected for good reasons, but the attic of your house is not a good place for them. Well, good for the bats, not you or your house. The build up of guano can ruin the lumber in your attic. Scrape it up, get it out of your attic and into the garden! It's about the best manure there is.
Excluding bats in late summer will not interfere with their raising young bats, and they can more easily find another place to colonize. In winter, many of them would die, because they hibernate, and don't have the energy to search for food that may not be there in winter, whether it's insects or fruit. If you know someone with bats in their home, encourage them to exclude them Now, before it gets cold.

Be careful. Lexington, KY has had a rash of rabid bats this summer.
