The how many threads are you watching got me to wondering how many threads I'd started since I've been here...I've started 118 not counting the PDB... more talkative than I thought I was... how talkative are you? Guesses on who has started the most threads?? LOL
119 now
How Talkative are you?
Not very, just 19 if you take out the PDB forum
Melissa, I make be a little short sighted, is there a count number somewhere or do you have to manually count them all? (I couldn't find a count)
I just counted mine. Maybe some of the more talkative folks are still counting theirs?
If you click on your name you can "See all the threads MollyMc has started"
That is what I did. I just counted 97 for you.
Maybe that is something to ask Dave for.... a tally of how many threads you've started similar to the threads you're watching tally??
Melissa thank you for doing that. (You made me giggle) Hmmmm, 97 since November 2003. You've had 118 since July 03, guess that makes me a real blabbermouth. ROTFLOL,
:^))))
Molly
I'm a lurker(reader) rather than a poster. So, you all know when you post that it is being read and appreciated by many more people than actually reply. I'm just naturally shy on the computer(definetly not in person) and I have learned so much . I 'm reading some posts and forums every evening. I appreciate the blabber mouths as the more I read, the more I feel I know that person. Lou
Melissa, I had not thought in numbers the threads I started. I have 115 listed; you have me beat! My DW says I don't know when to stop talking. But when I see that someone is either searching or in need of information, I just have to jump in. LOL
Gary/Louisville
I'm a little confused, the original post says threads watched?
I lost count at about 450. Guess that means I can't claim to be shy and retiring in nature.
Alot of forums have a post count. Sometimes it is very bad on a forum though. People tend to look at your PostCount instead of what you have to say.
I'm too lazy to count mine! LOL
crimsontsavo, are you refering to the number of replies to a post? I really don't pay much attention to that and am not certain why it is even there.
You mean talkative with the aid of a keyboard!!? I have always claimed to be a shy, introvert person and I'm almost renown for that. That has been my trademark all through. But with the keyboard or a pen, I tend to cease to be that. Now when I tried to count the threads started by me, the scrollbar at the right had become small!!! So I dropped off the idea there itself. May be 200??? 200, besides PDB, for a shy, introvert!! That is what DG can do! Open up people from the inside. Because there are more chances of meeting similar people in here. All these, aside from replies to posts. If there is any count and a record, many of us would just spin and faint as soon as we realize that we are not untalkative!! I'm for sure, no Chatterbox!
Baa, there was a post last week asking "how many threads are you watching" That got me to thinking, I always watch the posts I make myself... so that accounts for some; then I wondered how many threads I had actually started myself. I think it would be neat to have that feature on our homepage as well. "you are watching XX number of posts" you have started XX number of posts"
I've been on boards that counted every post made as well, I never paid much attention to it, just like real life, I"m sure there are people that "talk" just to hear themselves talk as my mom used to say. :-)
I'm not an introvert, but I'm not an extrovert either. I'm not really shy unless I'm in a crowd of people I don't know, then I am...sometimes things strike me, and I have to make myself stop typing (or talking)... other things, I think I could comment on that, but don't feel like I can add much else, so I don't... I guess I'm just in the middle somewhere. :-)
It's so confusing, I think I will answer it arbitrarily :^P
I am not exactly shy. I just only talk when necessary (like, when someone asks me a question, or I have to know something really important and have no other ways to get this information without asking someone else - I think that's how I start threads in DG most times). I am almost incapable of start a conversation without any personal interest (this is how I behave in malls, supermarkets, and restaurants... I only go there if I have something to do/buy/eat there). But I wouldn't say I am shy. Actually, despite my lack of voice usage, I am quite a goofy person. I am not ashamed to look silly.
I also have very short recent memory (I'm 25, figure it out) specially when I am concentrated on something else, so I probably have lots of people waiting for an answer from me that I totally forgot (which leads people to think I'm shy... or a *insert curse word here*).
Well, I started to count... and then lost count after about 250.... I joined in March 2001 so I've had lots of time to start threads, LOL!
No no , not the replies to a thread. I meant the overall post count for each induvidual.
It goes like this-
Notice how you can see my name beside my post?
crimsontsavo
100 posts
Fountain,Fl
Zone 8
It shows on every post you make and automatically goes up with each new post. It is kind of like grading a poster. Some forums also have titles. Like when you reach 100 posts you go from "newbie" to "regular poster". An avatar would be nice, hehe. But that could open a door of no no's as well. Sorry I didnt meant to take over your thread! LOL

I counted 190 for me, since March of last year. I was surprised. In real life, I'll go for hours without saying a thing. I doubt if I make more than 10 phone calls a year from home. I must be the only suburban middle-class adult in the U.S. who doesn't have a cell phone.
I figured out a quicker way to count your posts, this thread made me curious!
If you go to search, search for posts made by you and search for just 1 common letter (I prefer the rstln or e ;) ) in all forums and voila, you'll get a ball park of how many posts you have. I'm still working on the number of threads started thing... :)

I think ya'll might be talking about Gasbag status, though I think that denotation includes all posts, not just threads started. Here're more info:
http://davesgarden.com/t/146237
http://davesgarden.com/t/403038
Teehee I have well over 3500 posts on another board.
No way im counting mine...I'll wait till Dave implements a post counter LOL
I'm in the category with Lou (Dispatcher) I tend to read and learn so much. Some of the the threads can be very interesting and informative. Problem is there isn't enough time to read them all. Jenny
Thanks GW, but I actually did mean how many posts we individually have started, not replied to. I'm sure my replies far outnumber my original posts. ;-)
Without the PDB forum threads I've started 278 posts since April 2001 which shows from my first answer I almost never watch my own threads :)
I'm quite a quiet, private person which means people think I'm shy but I'm not particuarly. I wouldn't sing in public for example but I'm more than happy to discuss nothing and everything and to start conversations with strangers, talk to crowds etc (had to for a living at one time). My brother reckons I'm an introvert extrovert! I just don't always have anything I want to say. I also learned as a small child that not saying much meant I got away with a lot more than my noisy brothers ;)
We have another way of saying 'likes the sound of their own voice' in my family, we call it verbal diarrhea *G*
I'm not sure how many I've actually started, but I think the way of finding out how talkative you are is by seeing how many actual "posts" you've made, and how lengthy they are. OUCH! That would be frightening for me! :)
Well since Feb. 14, 2003 I've...
started 72 new threads
replied to 810 threads (this doesn't count multiple times in one thread)
Since I signed on here March 25, 2001 I have only started 34 posts. For some reason about the time I think to start a post someone else has done it for me.
Scratching my head.
Just wonder how many of you are teachers? I don't normally "surf" DG, but this caught my interest! I'm normally over in the Rose forum! :>)
Summer's off?
Muahahaha
*raises hand*
Yes, you caught me! We have about 8 weeks off in the summer and it is already half over. Jenny
Not officially yet, in 4 months I'll be doing my student teaching though. :-)
Melissa how do you manage going to school and keep up with all your gardening? Do your schools start in Sept.? We go back to school the first week in August here.
No, actually I'm in school right now.
I'm in class from 1-9 on Tuesdays and 1-3 on Thursdays. I'm doing field experience from 8-12 at summer school Monday-Friday, but this is my last week for that and we got out early today, YAY!
Luckily, after the Ed class I'm taking this summer, I'm finished with all of my Education classes, the remainder are classes required for my other major this fall, so no more field experiences until Student teaching starts!
This summer I've missed anything that blooms on Tuesdays!
My college's Fall Semester starts the 3rd week of August, as do most of the public schools here. An exception this year with my daughter and youngest son's school. They aren't starting until September 7, I believe. They are just finishing work on a new high school, so to insure that everything is ready, they're starting 3 weeks late. Most of the State colleges don't start until Mid September though.
My oldest son goes back the same day I do, but then he's out a week at the end of September for "Fair week"
How do I find time? I don't sleep typical 8 hours a night, I never have. Usually 4 or 5 is the most I get. I don't watch TV unless it's "Survivor" I don't do very many outside groups or activities anymore, at least not in the summer, and I have a tremendous amount of help from my husband. He will occasionally help me weed flowers, and he has pretty much taken over the weeding of the vegetable gardens. He helps me with laundry and cooking on nights I'm in school, and during the regular semesters if I've got a tremendous amount of studying or homework he cooks then too. :-) When I'm out of school on breaks he doesn't lift a finger to help cook though. :-)
This (Dave's) is about the only thing I do on the computer unless I'm working on something for school. I'm not even very active in my online mommies group anymore. :-(
So basically "all" my free time is left for garden, and running kids to practices and ball games. :-)
This spring I carried over 20 hours and had 80 hours of field experience. My new daylilies got crammed in where ever I could get them.... I'll be regretting that in the next year or two. :-)
What do you teach?
My licensure will be grades 7-12, Integrated Social Studies.
A kindred soul-social studies. I teach 7th grade Texas History right now. When I began teaching I started with first grade, then was asked to change schools (closer home) and taught 4th grade for many years. Three years ago I was asked to take the Gifted/Talented pull out program for first through 5th grade and since they were tight with the budget I also had a few days a week with a reading lab for first and second graders. Last year the lady who taught the TX history for years retired and I asked for her job. Guess I won't move again unless theyforce me to. I have a first through 8th grade all level certificate with a specialization in reading, Special Ed. certification first through 12th, ESL, Kindergarten and Early Childhood, and upper level social studies. I have taught in all but one level (high school) and don't believe that will ever happen.
Right now, we've got American History, World History and Government combined classes in the Summer School. All of the students are Juniors and Seniors and Just graduated Seniors finishing their credits, so they can actually get their diploma.
It's been very interesting, to say the least. All of my field experience has been at the high school level, but, my college makes us do observation at every level to "make sure" we are where we want to be. I spent 40 hours in Special Ed, 40 hours in K-3, 40 in 3-6, 40 in 7-8 prior to the placements in the 9-12 setting. It definitely reaffirmed my desire to teach 7-12. :-)
I'm a late bloomer. When I went to college the first time, I started in Education, then switched to business. Took the 2 year degree and got out. At 34 I returned to get my bachelors in Education. I retook a lot of classes to refresh myself since it had been so long, now of course I wish I hadn't, but hindsight is always 20/20 and I'm almost finished now!
Melissa, I didn't get my degree until I was in my late 30's (divorce). Before that I was a teacher's aide for 13 years. I enjoyed teaching all ages. The kids I taught this year in 7th grade I taught in 4th and that was nice! I saw how much they had grown both physically and mentally.
I'll be 38 when I get mine. :-) I guess thinking, I had already turned 35 when I started. My mind is going quickly I think. :-)
I worked in different Supervor positions, and then in Human Resources, and for the last 10 years *wished* I was teaching History somewhere. :-( The straw that really broke the camels back is when they put me in charge of our new hire orientations about 3 years before I finally got up the nerve, and we were able for me to quit to go to school. :-)
Big mistake on their part, to put someone who wanted to teach in charge of "teaching" new people about the company. :-)

Melissa you will make a great teacher; I can tell that by the way you talk. You will be so happy and one of the pluses is having almost the same schedule as your children. Now you will have an "in" and your kids can't pull the wool over your eyes about what is happening at school. Mine always hated that part. If they got in trouble I knew before they had a chance to tell me. Guess I better get off here and finish my supper so we can watch the movie I rented today (Calendar Girls). It is supposed to be hilarious. It's raining here AGAIN. Jenny
Well I joyned on May 10th and started 38 Threads so far,so I am not exactly a Lurker.....in real Life I am quiet most of the time.
But this is such a wondeful Group that I just had to participate immediately.I wouldn't do that if I didn't feel comfortable doing so,
Brigitte
To Kell....you are not the only one who has not a cell phone...I can afford one but just don't want one .
I'm another that doesnt have a cell phone, nor do I want one. I'm a housewife, so i'm usually home. My husband does the early morning news for a local radio station. Since he goes in early, he gets home early...and since we spend most of our time together...there's no need for cell phones.
As for posts. I'm new to Daves and also to the gardening and plant world, so even though I post sometimes, I mainly read. Since I've only been gardening since May, I feel I don't have enough experience to advise people, and most of my questions have already been answered in other people's threads. I'm sure that the longer I'm here, and the more comfortable I get with the site, the more I'll post.
Jennifer
Wow folks!
Guess I was right huh? Lots of great teachers here in DG!
ROTFLMAO! Well, you're in the right place, because some of us "newbies" to DG need teaching!;>) I love all the info that is shared here, and Brigitte and I are "old buddies" on the Rose forum!
