I've been trying to add pictures to the plants database daily, but for some reason they don't all show up. Are some edited out?
If they are, it might be nice to have some type of auto email go out when the picture is rejected, that way we won't keep resubmitting the same photo.

Melissa, yours are in the queue. I'm releasing at a very low rate (approximately one per day) for the newsletter. If you don't mind yours not appearing in the newsletter, I can release them in larger quantities.
The guidelines you see when you add an image *try* to explain our process, but maybe it's not clear enough ;o)
I'm just easily confused. I'm just afraid of uploading them more than once because I tend to forget what I've uploaded and what I've not. I pull up one, and think to myself, I know I uploaded a picture of that already... maybe it didn't take?
I don't care that they aren't in the Newsletter.... I just don't want to cause you guys more work by uploading the same thing more than once, and I'm sorry because I probably have.

Melissa, no problem. I did see a few duplicates, and made a mental note (for what THAT's worth, lolol) that I'd double-check yours. I'll release most of yours tomorrow a.m. and that way you'll be able to see from your member page what you've added and what you haven't ;o)
I am like Melissa especially when there has been allot going on. Is there anyway there could be a place to show if we still have things in the queue?
Me too....got some in the que...I 'think'. I don't mind them not being in the newsletter, I'm just not sure what I've uploaded anymore. I've got quite a few more to go, but can't remember which is which.
Mel, I don't have any of yours in the queue presently (just double-checked.) All of yours have been released, but some of them may have not made their way into the newsletter. You can safely rely on your member page to see what you've uploaded compared to what's still on your hard drive ;o)
Unless someone specifically says they don't care HOW long it takes to release all of their images and they want each one to appear in the newsletter, I make a judgment call - more than a dozen images or so, and I start releasing one/day to the newsletter and some/all of the excess directly into the PDB (but they don't appear in the newsletter.)
I do try to make sure that everyone who submits an image has one (my choice) that appears in the next day's newsletter. I try to choose the most interesting/visually appealing/unique image from each person's submissions, and balance the overall newsletter so it's not particularly heavy with any one genus.
Just been to my member page and looks like everything is there...just didn't do that before posting the above message....dumb me..
Got some more oaks to put in...we're blessed with a great many species right around here.... and a bunch more weeds.Guess everyone is 'blessed' with those!
Just catching up on my reading after my vacation hiatus from DG.
Terry - any idea how many days worth of PDB submissions are in the queue? Or maybe worded better as....what'st the cycle time to have a new photo released?
I've thought it would be nice to see submitted pics that are still in queue. Could that be done on the Member's Image page so that you can see you've submitted an image and that it is still pending release?
To answer the first part of your question: there are currently 315 images in the queue. I try to keep 200-350 in the queue to select from, but the "inventory" moves pretty fast, especially for those who add just one image, they can expect to see their image in the next day's newsletter.
Each morning I select ~50 to include in the newsletter (one per person who has an image waiting), plus I release others that won't appear in the newsletter. The number of "other" released images can vary dramatically from day to day. If someone has posted a couple hundred images, I may release all but a handful of them. For those with a dozen or so images queued up, I may release one to the newsletter and 1-3 others that won't appear in the newsletter.
The second part of your question is for Dave to respond to. I agree it would be nice to be able to see your queued-up images, and it would probably reduce the number of duplicates (that number is surprisingly small, though.)
It would be nice for the user to see a queue of their own messages. I'll see about getting that done.
dave
This feature is finished. To view your pending queue, go here:
http://plantsdatabase.com/pending.php
Or, click to your member page (from the PDB Menu) and then click on the pending message. If you have no messages waiting, then the pending message will not appear.

THANK YOU Dave!!!
Thanks Dave that helps allot.
Happy to help!

Very cool! Thanks Dave.
Thanks Dave...... will save some of us with more than our rightful share of senior moments from giving Terry more work than she needs by sending duplicate images.
Dave - I really have to say how delightful it is having a web site owner/manager that is SO responsive to the needs of the user group! I know I've said it every time you implement a requested feature, but I really, really mean it.....YOU DA MAN!!!
I find writing them down as I put them in and dating the list helps. Terry has enough problems to deal with .
