We are going (trying) to be in Houston during August for a trade show.
does anyone know any good campgrounds out that way in neighboring towns?
TX DGers..any members near Houston?
Hi Lisa
I am about 3 hours from Houston, but I have friends there. If you would like I will check with them.
Narc
thank you so much narc, I have a Woodall's camping guide that lists all the campgrounds, however I learned this weekend you can't believe what you read...
I understand, let me do some checking this week and I will get back with you.
I am curious, what kind of trade show is it?
it is a Landscaping/Nursery & Green Industry Trade Show.
oh, it is held at the George R Brown Convention Center if that helps out any location wise.
I sent ya an e-mail about some locations thru out the Houston area..Hope some can help ya out...
we have a new campground in hempstead but i don;t think it will help out any, it is about an hour north west of houston.
thanks all for the info.
moodene, thanks for the email. I really like lost lake, but it no hook ups for power and water.
we might just end up having to motel it :0(
Lisa
Were you able to find anything close?
Well how long are ya'll gonna be in Houston??
Dear Heart...if I lived near Houston you would be more than welcome to camp out in my yard...I'd even let you come into my house for showers, and stuff if needed....You have your own camper so all you need is a parking place!! Jo
Lisa I live about 2 hours north of Houston and go there only when I have to. I don't think you will find any campgrounds near the George Brown Convention Center. They will all be at least an hour and maybe more in that traffic. If it were me I would get a hotel but you might check the outskirts like Baytown, Humble, etc. They might be about 45 minutes drive in to the convention center. Jenny
I live in Mont Belvieu just about 10 min east of baytown. I know there is a camp ground up the road. Let me find out some more. What about an RV park? There is also one of those. I guess they don't do reservations do they. I will get back to you. I am about 45 min to 1 hour from there depending on traffic.
Sandy
Hi Lisa - I just did a google on Houston RV Campgrounds and the first site gives three. it's a long pedigree but I'll try to git it.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=Houston+RV+Campgrounds&btnG=Search
well I copied it told you it was long.
thank you all for the info.
How far is Conroe, TX from Houston driving time(not mileage) wise? We have a free stay at a campground in Conroe and it looks beautiful.
Thanks again, sorry I didn't answer sooner as we were out of town yet again.
moodene, we are not sure how long our stay will be. It depends on how much we have going on here at that time..we never know until the last minute and that makes it hard to plan. The trade show lasts 2 days.
Conroe isn't too far in miles but you would have to come in on I45 and it is pure hell all the time. Traffic is stop and go. I avoid that at all costs. It's possible but you need to allow for about an hour and a half drive in.
thanks for the info on Conroe,
I am thinking it might be to our advantage to get a hotel room...
Most of the outlying suburbs of Houston (I grew up there, am in college at TTU now) are all about an hour away. Have you found anything in Spring? That's about a 45 min drive from George R Brown and is a really nice, newer town.
There's always beach camping in Gaveston which is always fun. It's about an hour/ 1.5 hour drive though..
I'd have to agree about the hotel room. There's tons of inexpensive hotels around. I can tell you though...you're going to have to get away from downtown to lower the price- but once you get into the Medical Center the hotels are mainly scary scary.
So if you decide to go that way, you may want to run the area of town by me ;) I'll be home sometime in August so maybe we could have a mini Htown RU-- there's lots of us from there!
Lisa - I just found this KOA site here's the link;
http://www.koa.com/where/TX/43194.htm
this one is in Central Houston near the Medical Center. and it looks nice in the pics.
There were two more one east one west but well, just trying to help.
this is the one I was refering to. it is like being in the country with only a 45 min drive to the George R Brown.
I think you would like it. The page has the address and phone number to them. They are only about 8 min from my house.
