Smiln across the miles

Well, folks, my wonderful husband is letting me do something I have wanted to do for the past 2 years. I'm getting to travel by myself and visit some of my DG garden buddies. I don't have everyone lined up yet, but I've sent out a handful of emails to folks. I'll be leaving on Sunday and heading east. First stop is to MO to visit leaflady (EvaMae). She's a dear, sweet woman and I can't wait to meet her.

The farthest east I'll get is OH, simply because of all of the driving. But then, there are so many DGers in OH. Gracious.

Yes, I'll be taking pictures along the way. I will be gone a whole week. I can't wait! Friends and gardens galore...

Road trip! Glad you're getting as far east as Ohio - Lord knows there's enough of us here!

When can we expect you in Alaska, Smilin?

Oh, my. Gee, ummmmm, well.... :) That's a little farther than I was planning to go this trip. Gracious. How long would it take to get there anyway? I may have to make that in another trip, my AK friend.

So far, I know I'll be seeing leaflady, dispatcher1, rosiesplace, gardenwife and howie, lotusblossom and hopefully lupinelover. There are about another 4-5 folks I still hope to hear from before I leave.

I wish I was going to be home so I could try and talk you into meeting me. But Im headed to Florida with the family.

Im really hoping that I can do just what your doing someday, DH has no interest in plants so he thinks he would be bored and because of that he probrably would be. Have a great trip.

OK, Smiln, it may be a bit far for this road trip! But if you ever find yourself on the Alcan, head down to the Kenai Peninsula to say 'Hi'.

Alaska, yep, I see that on the map. Whoooeeeeyy. I'll bet it's beautiful there right now. I'll put it on my next itinerary. :)

Add Morph, TC and Honibee to the list of folks I'll get to be visiting. This is so fun.

Now, if Badseed will just give me a holler, I'll be able to get my planning in full gear.

Carla...Mystic is close to Badseed....you'll get a reputation as a "roadrunner" like me...but by golly.....you'll enjoy every minute of it. If you are in Indiana would you PLEASE send me a post card from there....I missed getting one for my DGS when I went through....GO GIRL!!! Jo

I am so jealous! You get to meet Leaflady! No fair!!! I would love to take a journey like you are doing. Maybe one day when DD gets a little bit older..and I don't have so many critters and I am not working in the garden so much and...sigh...I'll never make it..LOL! Have fun!

See, TC just confirmed my problem. I'd love to visit each and every DG'er, but I'd need to put in my own oil pumper out here in OK in order to afford the petrol.

Ok, I'll add WA and AZ to my list of states to visit....next trip. Ya'll are sweet to want to have me come and say, "Hey". I'm about all packed. Leaving tomorrow. I keep remembering things, though. Makes me nervous about what I might be forgetting. :) Like, I just put towels in the car as I might actually want to shower at the campsites. Aren't ya'll glad I thought of that? (Especially everyone I'm visiting). :)

Don't forget a bucket and trowel.

Guess who is here at our home tonight!!!!?? Carla got here about 7 pm and we toured the yarden until dark. We're eating pork quesidilla? right now along with some cantelope. She said she wasn't going to take any plants with her but has decided she needs plants more than clothes so she's leaving the clothes here. They will be shipped to her after I try all of them to see which ones fit. LOL.

Honibee, please be sure to send her directions. She'll check her email frequently.

That's funny! Carla, if you need to launder the few remaining clothes you have left in your immediate possession, our washing machine and dryer are free Friday. ;)

Carla just left about 13 minutes ago. She should be on highway 65 by now and on the way to her parents. I did get several starts of plant pawned off on her. LOL. She came prepared with a whole box of large trash bags to line the seats.

No one can imagine my joy and enjoyment over this visit. It is just so wonderful to meet a fellow DGer. Kim, see if you and Carla can find that big hosta in her hosta book, please. Remember the one that is the reverse of Great Expectations? She thought it might be Sagae' but the leaf isn't quite right. Maybe we both have the same sport of something. Mine was given to me by a friend who didn't know what it is either. All I know is that it is a fast grower, huge and lovely to behold.

The weather here is lovely. Cool, light breezes, and feeling like it just might rain sometime today. I need to see if I can light a fire under Shad and get this chipping/shredding done today and mulching done tomorrow.

Hindsight's 20/20...If I'd have thought of asking, EvaMae, maybe Carla might have brought my hosta divisions from you with her. That's okay, though, no hurry. Her car is pretty well packed full from what I gather!

If the weather is as grand everywhere as it was at EvaMae's, I'll be just fine. Nice during the day and cool nights. Glorious! The only time I seem to go through a lot of clothes (provided I don't leave them all behind) is when I get all sweaty and dirty.

I'm at my parent's house in IL right now. My visit with leaflady was a delight. Her husband and I had lovely chat's too. They're both sweet, charming people. What I wasn't prepared for was the myriad of critters they have everywhere. They have a male peacock (gorgeous), chickens, ducks, rabbits, pigeons (even cute little baby ones), 3 dogs and 6 cats. I probably left something out, too. I have a benefit this trip. I can leave my plants here at my folks' house until I come back through next week. Anything I want to, I can plant here and others I can take back to OK with me. Life is good!

If you were here, I'd take a swipe at your arm! I don't get sweaty and dirty driving. It's when I go to playing in the gardens with my fellow DG'er that I get that way. You stinker. :)

Oh what fun. EvaMae is on my list of folks to meet someday but since I am so far away it might not be here on this earth!It's a loooooong way from Oregon to Missouri. Yes, I'm taking pictures. I'm still trying to figure how to load them from the laptop. At home, it's no problem. I know how to edit/crop and such. I'm not as familiar with the laptop as I am our home computer. Anyway, I hope to get it figured out soon.

Omigosh! If I took my kids to leaflady's, they would never want to leave!! You'll have to tell them about all the critters when you get here. We lovingly refer to Kristenne as Ellie Mae! LOL

This is a picture of me leaving our church parking lot. Little Kaley was a bit clingy. She's never been away from me for more than a night or two (with grandparents), so this was a bit hard on her. She's resilient, though.

This is a picture of me with leaflady (EvaMae). She's just one of the sweetest people you could ever meet.

Well bless her heart Carla, I reckon most little girls wouldn't want their mommies leavin em for very long. Especially one as purddy as you. ;~)
