OK - I can't get my daily dose of this site like I used to. Those who know my situation understand that rather than a different country, I am also in a different WORLD because of work and lack of a home computer right now.
So, Friday night, a glass of wine (OK, second glass), I log in and find under my watched threads a delightful thread about a recipe that fascinated me.
http://davesgarden.com/t/395357
I have never gotten around to making this, but might get a chance when I move back to the states. I didn't see a watermelon at the local Tesco - but, darn, we sure have good Guinness. :-)
I checked my watched thread counts and found 250 - exactly.
How many are you watching?
Fondly,
Sandra

Wow!
Edited: Whoops, I was wrong. Just added this one. Make that 2993.

laughing... OK, dear R___, do you watch every thread that you read? :)
Reminds me of the thread where people were searching for your name... gosh, I do miss this place...
hah! Nope...and I actually watch some for a while then UnWatch them!
I've been here since Jan '01....guess I've racked up a few over the years, eh?
Hope you're hanging in there...."they" say my DNA comes from Ireland. Still hoping to come visit that place one day. Still hoping they build a bridge over there, too.
PS...have ya kissed the Blarney Stone yet?
A mere 1,424 threads ;o)
Any way of unwatching them without doing is one at a time?
1,338 threads. :)
dave
1950! Remember that every picture you add to the PDB starts a thread and has you automatically watching it. I like this and every now and then a thread comes to life when somebody has a look at a picture that may have been there for a long time.
TA...not that I know of. But hey, lookee here...at least if you do them one at a time then you get to re-read why you wanted to Watch them in the first place, and it gives you a chance to really decide if you want to Unwatch it or keep it.
Hmmmm....
Terry...1424
Dave...1338
I better start UnWatching some...they're gonna be charging me extra for causing a strain on the system.
well, I feel small . . . I'm only watching a measly 150.
Cheri'
2526 :)
or as Shoe said, now it's 2527 *g*
Not quite as many as u Horseshoe
I just hardly ever stop watching a thread - just in case something really interesting comes up on it.....
Thanks for asking the question sbarr
How are things?
Any chance of a trip to the south of France?
I always thought it would be nice to clear the watched threads in one fell swoop. I tried unchecking and then rechecking them in the prefs but somehow that doesn't seem to work.
O'Horseshoe - please let me know when you'll be over for a pint - I can heartily recommend the Hairy Lemon and will see what references to Horseshoes I can find in the Emerald Isle... So many places to enjoy! Regarding the Blarney Stone - word has it that sometimes teenagers have a few pints and use it as a urinal - not sure if it's true, since it's probably locked up at night. I still need to get there - which reminds me, I wonder if Gardener Trish or Gardener Dave are still alive and kicking and want to take a few jaunts around Ireland and Europe. I'll have to go find that forum.
Philomel - absolutely. I was in Paris for 46 hours two weeks ago - methinks I need to make it a longer stay. It's been pretty tough lately with two day trips all over. What I had hoped would be more exotic and interesting is just very tiring, cabs to and from airport, hotels, office buildings, but little of the charms of the city - tired this weekend, ended up staying up almost all night in Stockholm because it doesn't really get dark, flying back to Dublin and attending a user testing session being led in the US until 10 pm at night. I'm still dreaming of having that picnic in your field! :)
sundry - we're both small. Looks like HShoe and Philomel need to become Uber-threaders! :)
Dave or Terry - is there a way you can determine who has the most watched threads? I imagine there is a table linking user_id and watched thread number or something like that. Not that the person would necessarily want their obsession revealed, but the number might be interesting. :) Groan - now that I think of it, if you had a row for the unique combination of user_id and thread_id...shudder, how many millions of rows?
200,016 threads are being watched, in total, on this system. :) (That's also how many rows in the t_watcher table of the database)
Here's the TWHOF (Thread Watcher Hall Of Fame)

Wow, that's amazing. Plus, I can't believe I finally made it to SOME Hall of Fame list, LOL!
Darius, even better, being in this Hall of Fame puts you in good company!
...and the award goes to...(slowly opening envelope, pausing) gardenwife!!! (applause! applause! as gw makes her way to the stage) I'd like to thank... (and the nominees tearfully say), It was an honour to be nominated!
I'm with TARogers, it would be nice to be able to delete them easier. I went through mine a few months ago and it took me forever to get them deleted. Guess I should do it again before they build up too much.
Why do ya'll want to delete them?
I enjoy seeing a thread that originated in 2001 pop back to my attention. It could bring new thought to the topic, or an update regarding something.
Yep, spose I should do mine. But then I'm always hoping for that extra interesting post ;oD
Hi sbarr. The orchids are over but there are plenty of other lovely wild flowers out there to sit amongst :)
Horseshoe, you asked if sbarr had kissed the Blarney Stone and I am waving my arms madly shouting, "I have! I have!" Then when I read the part about it being used as a urinal I quit waving and had to look in the mirror to see if my green face meant I was sick! What I didn't know then didn't hurt me, obviously. I just had to have a legitimate reason for all the blarney I have spouted forth all my life. Now I am qualified to do it or so I tell everyone. I even have the picture to prove it......somewhere..... And that's no blarney!
Oh Dave! I always thought it would be nice to clear the watched threads in one fell swoop. I tried unchecking and then rechecking them in the prefs but somehow that doesn't seem to work readily.
Could you make a "Remove thread (or threads) from watchdom" gizmo?
I only unwatch threads that take on a different direction that no longer interests me. Otheer than that they stay "watched" and it is fun to see them dredged up again months or years later and breathted new life into them. If I had "unwatched "them I might miss the added comments of a new member a year or so after the thread was last commented upon.
And if it is a thread I started it remains "watched" so that if it pops up somewhere down the road I will know and respond as necessary.
So my list is going to always be a long one and get longer as time goes by.
Zany - completely agree. It's fun to see ones from a year ago pop up and the size of the watched thread table is miniscule in comparison to a few pictures. That's why I was so tickled to find the one about the watermelon lemonade. My memory is short, but my interest remains - even if I can't act on it.
I'm grateful for the functionality, especially when I cannot review each forum every week, so it does help me get caught up after a short absence on threads that were of particular interest.
And if someone wanted to delete them - even a dozen a day would eliminate a few thousand watched threads over the course of a year.
Might be fun to find some old threads and revitalize some discussions. ;-)
just a mere 261 threads here..
i thought i was watching more than that..
lol
maybe after i'm here for a few years, i'll be watching several thousand...
I am only watching 1006. That doesn't seem like many compared to how many some folks are watching. I am like the rest and continue watching in case a thread is ressurected. Subjects that change often come back to the original thought the next time around.
OMG, I have that many watched? I tend to watch just about anything I've posted to, because I never know when something might come back up on it. Like Zany, I only unwatch them if they've wandered into a different area that is no longer of interest to me. But 4000+ ?? Holy cow.
P.S. Yes, I watched this thread.
did you polish your statue? lol
No, but I'm watching it. ;)
