Search engine

Hi, Dave. When searching for a word the poor thing has to go through the entire website and only THEN does it ask you whether you want to limit the results to a specific forum. Isn't that the cart before the donkey?

I've thought that sometimes, too. For whatever reasons, I get better search results if I use Google's search site function, so that's what I use when looking for something at DG.

Click on Search in the menu. Then you can put the cart behind the horse.

I didn't see it either, Max - Just always typed in the box.

Evidently, we need to think outside the box, LOL!

I was reading along this thread and I thought...."Huh?"

I've always used the Menu Search option and never knew there was a Search Box!!! LOL!!! What one eye can see the other cannot! What one member can see the other cannot. LOL!!


Dave - it's things like this that I think could be improved in the navigation of the DG network sites. I've always thought the CONTENT of DG is what keeps people coming here. Which is great! But the GUI could probably be a bit more intuitive. I'm also finding myself getting frustrated about scrolling to get to things on this website. Maybe I'm a lazy web surfer.

One that always gets me is when I want to ADD a New Plant to the PDB. I have to go to the PDB Home page and then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. If that's my sole purpose for coming to the PDB it'd be nice if there was a button just right there in the upper right corner.

Another one is when threads get really long it would be nice if it would go to a page 2, page 3, page 4, etc rather than create one gigantic page that seems miles long. Would be great if we had a button at the bottom right of a page to go to "PREV 1 2 3 4 5 NEXT" sort of thing.

And to just round out my suggestion list, how about adding a hyperlink in the upper right corner (maybe under the current date/time and population count) put links to....

* Today's Birthdays
* Newest Members
* This Month's Garden Poll

These could go to a new page and reduce the page length on the smaller pages.

And maybe, just maybe it would be cool if under our Custom Menu options we could say WHAT we want to have in the right hand Nav bar. Of course links to the DG Network sites (PDB, GW, GBW, etc) would be on everyone's menu.

Just some thoughts....
