llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwillantysiliogogogoch=
longest town name in the world..hehe..for sure right. He says...leaving -Britain- in a couple of days. I miss normal Electric plugs, and using Euros and other languages..than English. I've brought a lot of "Rags" and the weather has been good...Food is bad though. Wish I were in Poland
-Evert- say-"Hello" to DG~~~~~~~~~~~~~

the card is Nice...I can not scan it and do as before, for all of you..new Pc..scanner does not work with it. Sorry. But I thought you would all like to hear from Evert.

I have heard about that town many times before:)

I talked with Evert yesterday on msn, he was visiting in his friends house in Germany. Today they will go to Czech RE.

He's such a whiner, always something is wrong:D Yesterday it was too dark, in Britain language was wrong...Etc:D Not really, just kidding.

This is the one he sent it to me from England...

It's good to hear from Evert - wondered how his trip was progressing. Diana, what model scanner do you have?

Mitjo, that photograph is neat - the rainbows alone are cool, and with the boats, too, it's really neat.

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

hehehe...it is a vistioneer....8100....only thing that does not work with this new one....One touch...haha...smiles..Diana

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I have the same scanner and it does work with XP. I'll reply to your e-mail. :)

Thanks for the photos, traveling is always fun even from a chair in my own home.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Back home.. Lots of new flags and other stuff. And a few new countries. After this I don't want to see any more Western Europe, it is so expensive there. I want to go to East! Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, China..

Shangshui, Henan, China(Zone 7b)

Welcome you and Mitjo to China, young men!
Yunnan Province (southwest in China) is famous for 'kingdom of flowers'.I recommend you for a visit there.
By the way, travelling is relatively cheaper in China.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Evert, have you thought of ever visiting the U.S? Despite the fact that most of the world is currently mad at our government, the population is just plain folks like us here on DG.

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Thank you Jianhua. And you are very welcome to Finland too.

Woodspirit, we visited in Miami on last January, and I found out that Americans sure are very nice people. They came talk to me easily and they sure are funny folks:) Of course I met many American tourists from other states but I also did talk to many local floridians. Nice people.
You are not responsible your goverments actions, but remember, you choose your president, prime minister and all the governors. Now only half of the Americans vote, if everybody would vote maybe you werent in war.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Sure Jianhua, but the return ticket to China from Finland is quite expensive :S And we need a visa :( I would like to take the train to Moscow and then the trans-Siberian train to China. Maybe one day.. ;)

USA is on my list as well, my friend is there right now. She went to NYC and then flew to California. Don't know is she's back yet.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

You are exactly right, Mitjo. I expect a much bigger turnout this year at the election polls.
Evert, New York City and California are great places, but hardly typical of middle-America. I hope you can visit some of us while you're here........

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

Someone said to me, that if you want to see the real America, got to some pitstop in middle of no where. I think it might be true, California, Florida and NYC are full of tourist, bu I bet you cant find them from middle of New Mexico.

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Actually New Mexico is the winter home to a lot of folks who live further north, up in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. This is to escape the cold. New Mexico also has a couple of towns that are artists colonies so there is a lot of tourism there.
We have the same thing on our Atlantic Coast. A lot of folks who used to live up north and retired to Florida have summer homes up in the mountains of Georgia and a little corner of South Carolina and the Mountains of North Carolina where I live (to escape the heat).
Most any place with a seacoast or mountains is a tourist mecca.

The town name was mispelled. The correct name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch :)

Dave

Anyone not Welsh want to pronouce it? ;)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I watched carefully at the railway station plate when writing it.. :|

Wow,totally 58 letters -- so long a word.
Before this, the longest word kept in my mind blurredly is:
antidisestablishmentarialism (28 letters, dic says it is a religious word)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

The two longest words in Finnish are said to be

epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydellänsäänsäkään

and

lentokonesuihkuturbiinimoottori

Finnish words are generally long and they've got many wovels. The word with most wovels in a line is hääyöaie. :) Our words are still possible to spell - but just think of those Polish ones.. :S

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

hehehehe Dave...took the spelling from the card...no problem..at my age...??????? I can not see...sooo sorry for mispelling it...I guess town names are important...to the town...lol...ok..stand corrected...thanks..smiles..

Diana...

Lappeenranta, Finland(Zone 3a)

the longest word in Finnish is Lentokonesuihkuturbiiniapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Evert, they're vowels not wovels...but it sure sounds funny, lol. Actually your English and apparently your use of any other language you are interested in, is excellent.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

What an interesting thread. And what long names for towns, you could be out of town before you finished saying the name. Welcome back Evert. Glad you had a good trip. And I agree that to get a better idea of US one needs to visit small town America. I live near a small town, 1000 pop. I was born 20 miles from here and have lived here all of my 78 years, except for 1 1/2 years when I was small. i have been in all but 4 of the states, much of Canada, Mexico, South America, and some of Europe. But I am most happy here in my garden in my small town. Donna

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Nåja, you understoon anyway. In Finnish we only use the one simple V. ;)

I wish I won in the lottery or something and I could spend a whole Summer in the USA or something :D

I love languages, should have been a linguist. I remember nearly all the French I took in the 9th grade (age 14). Thanks for explaining, Evert.
