Going to Florida

We are going to Panama City Florida in a couple of weeks. We will be driving down 95 with three kids and a bunch of luggage.
What we would like to know is what places should be visited during our drive. We arnt looking to go to amusement parks as we will only be staying for a week and as soon as we get back DH starts a new job.
Please give us some ideas on where to go. I wont be able to make stops at DGer's places along the way, as I said this is only a weeek long vacation and I would have to spend at least 1 day with everyperson wich means if I did I wouldnt get home for at least a month and still wouldnt get to Florida.

You need to stop off at Stone Mountain, Georgia. That place is both bizarre and incredible. And at night they have a really cool lazer light show.

funny you mentioned this, I asked this same question a week ago, about us going to Destin Florida. We're only going for 3 days, we're going to go deep sea fishing and ride the glass bottom boat. That's about all we'll have time for, plus I'm hoping to stop at the nurseries along the way. LOL

Pensacola has the blue angels, they have a web site, not sure what it is, but it 's free, and there's a navel museum in pensacola , that's suppose to be really neat.

I live in Niceville, which is just across the bridge from Destin (about 3 miles). Destin has a couple of good water parks. The Naval Museum in Pensacola is really awesome if you are interested in planes and history. There is an old lighthouse by the naval museum that is a restaraunt now. It is pretty cool. The deep sea fishing is great here. There is also a speed boat ride that is a lot of fun. Welcome, Kathy. Hope you have fun here.

Stone Mountain is nice but I would go here. Callaway Gardens. They have beach, paddleboat and a butterfly house that is worth the trip just by it's self. The kids would love the butterfly house. Not sure where 95 takes you to.

When will you be there? I will be there on June 25-27 to see my 13 year old grandson play in a baseball tournament. Don't forget the sun block.
kathy ann the deep sea fishing in Destin is great. Went several years ago and was in Destin last year and wanted to go again but never got around to it.

Kathy_ann we had the Blue Angels fly over for graduation at the Naval Academy. They do it every year and we get to see them everyday for almost a week as they practice the flight patterns. They are truly awesome and never fail to amaze me in thier abilities. The Naval Museum sounds fantastic, my mom retired from the Navy reserves little over a year and she loves to have pics of other bases.
Georgiaredclay we are going to Lynn Haven just outside of Panama City, we have friends/family there and they have a bunch of things planned for us while we're there including deep sea fishing wich DH has done but not me......yet. I cant wait to see everyone and DH has told me to try and keep the plant aquireing down a bit so we dont have to rent a trailer to get everything badk. LOL He knows me way too well.

Lynn Haven is where a member lives. Weeds. Don't go near her or you will be renting a trailer for sure. She loaded me down at the last roundup I went to. Hope you emjoy the trip.

The week of the 28th of June weeds. Im so excited!! I reminded DH that Im going to HAVE to go see you and while we are there. We are trying to make it so we are home by July 4th so we can watch fireworks at home and let him have some rest for the first day of his new job on the 6th. Ill give you a call soon. : D

If you are interested in Gardens, Charleston, SC has many old ones open to visitors. Savannah, GA and St Augustine, FL are also just off I 95. But an interesting place to visit is the Charleston Tea Plantation.

Charleston Tea Plantation Wedding Punch


Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

4 cups brewed, chilled tea
4 cups apple juice -- chilled
2 cups unsweetened pineapple juice -- chilled
2 bottles club soda
orange slices, lemon slices, fresh mint

Combine tea, apple and pineapple juices, and refrigerate until ready to
serve. Add the club soda, fruit slices and mint immediately before serving.
Serve over ice. Makes about 35 4-ounce servings.
