HI All, We're going to Destin Florida in a few weeks for a few days. We're going deep sea fishing on one day, maybe just bumming around, and heading to the beach one of those days too, and i'm not finding too much information on tourism and things to do down there. Anybody else from that area, can you think of neat things to do down there. It doen't have to be in the Destin area, but around that area, my DD was born in Fort walton Beach. Thought it would be nice for the kids to see the ocean, she was one year old when we moved from there to arkansas. Any Ideas?
we'll be taking a travel trailer with us, and staying in rv parks too.

Going to destin in a few weeks
I'm in Navarre but I've been to Destin a few times. I've only been living here about a year or so. I know that Fort Walton Beach has the Gulfarium, Glass bottom boats, guided boat tours, parasailing and scooter rentals. There are many neat restaurants in both Destin and Fort Walton Beach. You could always go deep sea fishing too. I wish I could help more.
***Found my travel guide***
Here's what it says... There are the dolphin excursions, snorkeling, waverunners, moped rentals, island tours, sea scooter, pontoon boats, and electric cars. The Gulf Islands National Seashore have many nature trails and recreational paths (Blackwater River State Forest and Blackwater River State Park in Santa Rosa County). You can also do horse back riding. There's also golf and mini-golf, putt-putt, camping, Kayaking, visit old historic forts and don't forget about the wine tasting at the SeaBreeze Winery in Panama City Beach.
Good luck.
Destin = suntan lotion + sunglasses+ beach chair + cold drink + paperback book ;o)
Seriously there are fun things to do (as mentioned above), but my favorite is to simply decompress by spending several hours away from phones, TVs and computers, and soak up some rays (with proper UV protection, of course!)
LOL NOW I know why all my inlaws just moved there! I guess that puts us in a good position for house hunting should we ever decide to make the leap. ;)
You have a great time Kathy!!
Gee you could always come to Panama City and meet Weeds,Crimsontsavo and me. It's been many years since I've been to Destin, but used to love it there.

You know just talking about Fort walton beach, Mary esther (where we use to live), destin, panama city beach, brings back wonderful memories when we lived down there. The day I had my daughter, we were out in the middle of the ocean in destin, fishing, I remember jumping out of the boat into the water, and it was only like chest high, we were out in themiddle of no where it seemed, it was so neat. We didn't have alot of money then, don't now either LOL, all we did was go to the beach, and walk the sound, gigging for flounder. Wish we had that stuff at our access again. Love the idea of the nature hike, we are going deep sea fishing. thanks for the help guys, Wish I could visit with some of you who live down there. LOL I don't even think dh would stop at a nursery. LOL I'm threatening if he doesn't. I want to stop at a few along the way.

kathy,
I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. I'm with Terry though. I love to just lay out on the beach but about the only thing that makes its way into my hand is a drink. I love the nature trails too. I don't go to the beach too often but when I do go I go all out. I live only a short walk from Santa Rosa Sound (l2 minute walk) but I like to go out on the island. This area is currently experiencing some fast growth. The time to move (here anyway) is now. IMO Destin is already too saturated and maybe even prohibitively expensive. It has a very formal feel to it in contrast to Fort Walton Beach. Don't get me wrong, it's super nice. Very clean, manicured and trendy. I love that it's a short drive from here.
I was also in Panama City Beach not too long ago. It's neat there too. The beaches don't really change though. They are awesome from here (Pensacola area) all the way down to Panama City Beach. The only thing I did notice were more shell fragments along the shore at Panama City Beach. I would love to kayak the entire Florida west coastline. Maybe one day. I would need to find a plant, house and dog sitter though.
