Karrie, right now I'm growing out 96 new Monika seedlings. This is over and above the many I already have, shrub and tree size, of the other varieties.
The agreement with Monika, the breeder, was that I'd grow out every single seed. She gets to view each and every seedling and has final say on which is kept and which goes to the compost. She also has first rights of naming. It's the breeder's code.
If even one of the ones I am growing is good enough to meet Monika's criteria I'll be thrilled.
If none make the grade, so be it. They will be composted.
We all make our choices, this was mine.
So hard to commit murder!
wow i hate to think of any plant dieing just because it doesnt make the grade. sounds so cruel.
i welcome any plant. as i do not hybredize or anything like that. mine are just for my pleasure.
i know only the strong need to survive but i will say it agian i will give any unwanteds a home.
i cant afford any brugs at the moment and one of mine is trying to die as it is. bad brug bad. hehe all i have have been given by all you wonderful people.
96 wow thats still too many for me to think about. i guess if i could every germinate seeds it might become an addiction.
shhhh i didnt say that. hehe
I love the ugly duckling I got from you. It has rooted well. I would love it with or without a name. I know there are always a few you need to worry about, so give it a simple name.Easy for me to say , what does it take to give one a name? paperwork?
Can't wait to see my baby and for names I have had alot of plants before I ever knew there was named variety. I am just glad to be able to own some and let others do their thing.
Kell, you made me a proud mom of "ugly duckling" and I will let you know when it blooms.
What ever your decision just know it it the right one.
I have changed my mind some. I have been to daylilly farms where they will sell culls for $2 or $3 a clump. Some very large clumps. But you have no idea the parents and if no one buys them they bite the dirt.
That is your choice because you hve put in alot of hours and hard work to have that right. I do believe you have to look out for the hybridizers like yourself or after a while the brug industry will be ruined. I Know this fall/winter enough of us will have cuttings to go around. I received alot and did't get in till some had already cut back.
Just my 2 cents.
I was told by a very old nurseryman here where I got my first white brug that they use to be all over the gulf coast and people got tired of them and destroyed them. Except for about 3 friends I introduced them to years ago and a few others I know of They are not around. Less in my book makes things more beautiful.
What ever you decide is the right decision. You are a very generous sweet person and that is what counts.
Blessings,
Sandy
