Website up and running :)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

My niece has designed and built a website to describe our new house and garden in Gascony, SW France, and advertise our gites.
She's worked so hard, when busy with a new job and young daughter with chickenpox, and we're so grateful to her.

Eventually there will be a section describing our garden in more detail, and other gardens of interest in the area.
The photos are all of the house and garden at the moment, though we hope to add ones of the surrounding area soon. The orchids (3 spp so far found) are flowering within our land at the moment, the bee orchids beside the driveway and the Serapias in the orchard and garden.

We have Red Kites over every day (and buzzards), and a family of nuthatches are the only takers at the bird feeders, one right beside a window. We have roosts of 55 pip and a couple of horseshoes (probably lesser), I've also seen and heard Nathusius' pips and noctules.

We've only been here a month, but it is already plain that the wildlife interest and the pleasure of living in this part of the world is going to far exceed my expectations.

Ah... what a dream! And, your niece writes with a touch of the poet in her descriptive words.

Wow, so romantic; what a lovely holiday one could certainly enjoy. Wish you all the very best in your new home and endeavors. The term gites was new to me. How very interesting.

*blush* the wording's mine darius, Chiara arranged the pages and put it on the web.
Thanks for the kind words Elaine (roses grow really well here, so I shall be indulging!!), darius and Lenjo.

Gite is a french word, it's not used in the UK either, except to describe self-catering accommodation in France. It's pronounced to rhyme with sheet, but with a soft g instead of the sh :)

Lakeland, MN(Zone 4a)

I was wondering how to pronounce gite. Now, I know! I don't think I have ever seen orchids growing in the wild. I also do not think I have every seen pip, horseshoes, Nathusius' pips and noctules before either. I can't wait to see it all!

I hope the orchids will still be there Karen. They're just starting to go over. But we had more horseshoes than ever in the barn last night - at least 5!

Also we're getting on with the plantings near the house, so it's looking quite colourful now
Can't wait to see you :)
