Advice from anyone living in Portland, Oregon

I was lucky enough to receive a free airline ticket to Portland,and I would love to come and see the gardens. My finances are very limited, and I wondered if anyone who lives in the Portland area might give me some advice about a reasonably priced hotel near enough to the Japanese, Chinese, and public rose gardens that I could get around fairly easily with a rental car. I have been on the internet to all the travel sites, but I thought someone who lived there might have the inside track. Thank you for your help.

I just typed in google where to stay in Portland, Oregon and they came up with a couple of sites and some with 800 numbers. Lorianna just signed up here ; look for her in Welcome Mat forum and email her; she is from Portland. Anastastia is from across the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington. The items you listed are all within bus or light rail distance.
