Here is part of the poem 'Lishao' by Qu Yuan,
in which the poet expressed his great love to mother nature.
(remember this was written 2500 years ago)
Thanks again for your link,Gardenwife.
.........
Should with the virtues of the earth combine.
With lavished innate qualities indued,
By art and skill my talents I renewed;
Angelic herbs and sweet selineas too,
And orchids late that by the water grew,
I wove for ornament; till creeping Time,
Like water flowing, stole away my prime.
Magnolias of the glade I plucked at dawn,
At eve beside the stream took winter-thorn.
Without delay the sun and moon sped fast,
In swift succession spring and autumn passed;
The fallen flowers lay scattered on the ground,
The dusk might fall before my dream was found.

What beautiful imagery, and melancholy. Time really does flow like water.
Do the stanzas rhyme in Chinese, too? I don't know about the phonetics of your language.
Jianhau,
Nice to meet you! I just met Dinu on another thread recently. I do love meeting other people around the world. Your thread was very interesting and neat to read! Hope to see more and start a friendship!

For the first brug seeds' chat,
I am afraid that I have to give you a little explanation here.
Quite a time ago,Brug addict tiG and some other guys talked of how to germinate brug seeds.I suggested using 'brag- brug-method'.It sounds kidding,but really it does wonder,especially for those who want to get seedlings in early spring. ):Scientific experiments show body temperature is right fit for speeding up seed gemination.
Diana,I had thought you have left the idea behind your back.):
Well - Jianua - you must know then that my brugs from seeds did quite well! I having thrivers now! :) Two of them are about 3 feet tall and the other 3 are about 2 feet tall. I gave one away to my neighbor that was in the middle of those sizes and looked real healthy.
I've learned alot about germinating those in the meantime, and hope to do it AGAIN! :)
Gardenwife,
The method of the pickled chicken eggs you mentioned of
is quite different from that of the pickled duck eggs.
Here is the recipe"
Fresh duck eggs,2 dozen
Table salt,certain amount
Clay,certain amount
A jar with a narrow neck
First,mix salt with clay,
second,make salt-clay into mud,
Third,wrap eggs with mud,
Fourth,place muddy eggs in jar.
Fifth,pour salty water to submerge eggs.
Sixth,cover lid.
Wait one month or more,
Take eggs out ,wash clean,and boil.
And then,enjoy.
Karrie,
Confucius he say;
A friend comes from afar,ins't it a thrill?
(有朋自远方来,不亦悦乎.)
I would like to start a friendship with you and you.
Wow...Those eggs really ARE done differently! I read a novel by Amy Tan which mentions something very like that; the book is called The Hundred Secret Senses.
Thank you Jianha. You seem like a very nice person! You have a friend with me!
Jian & Kimberly, there are two kinds of duck egg i am familiar to be preserved: century eggs and salted egg. i doubt them being pickled. the way i understand pickled product are the ones preserved in vinegar and spices. i could be wrong, but that is how i have known of their existence.
i love them both: century eggs is nice in porridge. salted duck egg i am not allowed to have due to my hypertension :(, although they are good, specially if the yolk is oily. salted duck egg is nice sliced in a sandwitch... between wedges of tomatoes. yummm. nice addition to salad too!
I'm using pickled as a generic term for preserved, my mistake. Century eggs don't look appetizing to me at all, but I'm sure some of the foods we eat are distasteful to you! It was century eggs the girl made in the novel; I remember her using lime and charcoal.

MaVieRose's salted duck eggs is what i am referring to.
Tell you the eggs made in this way is unique,especially the orange-peel-like oily yolk tastes wonderful.it is a necessarity together with Zongzi on Duanwu Jie.I read a lot about it while searching for the info.newspapers say this year the price of each salted duck egg sells 8 RMB yuan!(might because of the influence of birding flu.Farmers killed most of their ducks).
What does a salted duck egg look like inside ?see the link above.(I use Google to get this picture)

Tea eggs,century eggs and salted (duck) eggs are three major Chinese traditional egg diet cultures.Nowadays there arises a new canned quail eggs at table.Anyone who is interested in them may try to have a taste.(watch out,there are man-made eggs from certain chemicals which might cheat your eyes).
