Look nice place also you too so I would like to put goldfish in there. LOL
NIce to SEE you.
Thanks for posting your picture. Looks like a nice place to study.
Howdy Jianhua! Good to see you back. Hope your teaching job goes well this year!
Hope to see you posting more also!
Keep smiling!
Hello, friend! You look rested and happy. Best wishes and God's blessings to you! :)
Jon hello there-miss you in chats! Hope all is well with you! :)
Hello again, Jianhua. It's nice to see you here again. Do you have your family with you again? I hope you are able to come back soon and tell us where you are now and how long you will be there, plus something about the school and the city and the region where it is located.
Hello there,miss you guys.
This picture was taken inside the school gate half a month
ago, when our school children had been home for their weekend.Being hollow in my heart then,I sat in meditation, confessing and re-reading myself out at the side of the fountain. And one of my colleagues shot me down.this might be the first open picture of mine after the phoenix evolution.welcome to give your comments about the picture
from feet to head.):
Nanjing Oriental Chinese-English School which I am teaching in is really not so bad a one .I enjoy the landscape -- the whole space except the rain-flower pebble paths and cement roads,is all covered with lawns which are dotted therein with red flower clovers,multiple-color roses, cannas, dwarf bamboos, and the like.Early every morning quite a few kinds of birds jump between branches of the decorating trees, having their singing contests. Thus a new day full of life begins.
The NOCS,just as the name shown, the school puts emphasis on the English language study.Quite a proportion of the students will go to the English-speaking countries for further study after they graduate from the school. So to be an English teacher here,I find,I am just like a fish swimming in the river. Now there are nearly 1000 'little gooldfish' in this river.it is expected to break through this figure next school semester. Most of The 'little goldfish come from noble families;their parents have nothing but bucks. So they spoil their kids.and what's more, the outside world is so colorful while the lessons inside are rather dull.I say, some of them know nothing at all about geography or biology, but they do only know love.Though sometimes I by conscience tell them again and once again to put their hearts into their lessons,it seems no wonder appears.they will listen to you one ear in and the other out.Wonder if things are going on like this on your end.(see,i am becoing a worrywhart)
Well,so much for now.will continue with our sharing next time.
Good gardening!
Jianhua Zhang
It seems your students are much the same as ours. Most do not want to study and want to spend their time on more entertaining things. But in every class or school there is one student,or more, that thirsts after knowledge. It is this student that makes teaching worthwhile.
It is good that your school is surrounded by natures beauty and offers you such company as the birds of the trees to sing their sweet melodies to you while you enjoy your rest before the children return.
Nice to hear from you again Jianhua! You are looking great and we miss your posts. Keep us informed when you can.
Connie
Jianhua has a fan club! Every teacher needs one. Teaching pupils who would rather be somewhere else, doing something else isn't easy, but like Zany said, one student who wants to learn makes up for those who don't. Jianhua, I hope you have at least one good student, preferably many more.
That is six to one,and half to a dozen.
However, most of my children are upright.
And i will try every possible way to make my teaching lively and interesting.
Yes,we have a fan club called English Corner,
where we practise speaking spoken English.
A month ago,my classes attended the oral English Level test.
Nine out of ten passed.
Mentoring Children needs specialized knowledge and skills as well as love and patience.
Now behold, these little girls are lovely and lively, aren't they?

They're lovely, yes! I have always thought Asian women exceptionally beautiful.
Jianhua, I have made contact with a teacher I had when I was 11 years old and struggling at home and at school. He is 86 years old now!
He was my art teacher and such a friend to me. I used to sneak out of lunch period (shhhh!) and eat lunch with him in the art room. When I graduated from junior high, he gave me a box of treasures (to me, anyway): a small carton of charcoal, a woodcut he'd done, some pencils and paints. I still have that old box of charcoals. Teachers make such an impact on our lives!
I can not be more surprised that the picture takes you back to yesteryear,Gardenwife.Quite a few of my children regard me as their idols;they call me superman, hehehe I know who I am.To be a teacher, cultivating the friendship is necessary, but you must let them know this is just like the friendship between father and daughter (live no evil in the heart). Thus the tree of friendship will be green forever.
So glad to see your 'yesterday once more'.
Jianhua, I appreciate your views of a 'perfect teacher' and it is not easy to practise what is preached. I know from your honest tone that you are indeed doing a wonderful job for the society as a teacher. My scientist-colleague who retired a couple of years ago used to tell me that teaching is a very noble profession and he IS a wonderful man too. He is an expert in Mathematics and he now conducts private tutions at his home and he enjoys doing that (for a fee of course, to sustain himself and his family). But the joy he shares with us when any of his pupils score cent percent, is unlimited. That is the way one should look at teaching.
As far as the attitudes of students are concerned, it is no different here. The kids from rich families (at least a great majority of them) do the same - take good advice from one ear and let them escape from the other. They are so trained to like the materialistic world that they ignore the other important things in society. It is so bad that these are not being inculcated at homes, leave alone the classrooms. It is here the education system and the teachers themselves play an important role.
Is it a trimester or semester there, Jianhua? Here in our state (Karnataka), from this academic year the trimester scheme in schools will come into force. It is an attempt to lessen the study-burden before the exams. The first trimester portions need not have to be studied again for the next exams. We will have to wait and see how far this will be successful. These are in vogue in some other places and there are no complaints, it appears.
Jianhua, meeting our old teachers is such a beautiful thing. The joy the teacher derives from meeting an old student is unmatched. I like meeting them too. I have one high-school teacher. I came to know he lives close to my house and I went and met him one day and he was so happy. In fact, he knew my grandfather too.
My grandfather, in the 1920s, had one teacher called J.G.Tait. He was an Englishman who had come to India (under the British rule). Those days, they developed friendship, so essential a bond that helped teaching and learning so well. When Mr.Tait returned to Edinburgh after his retirement, they still exchanged letters in the 30s. I have preserved a few of them (my g-f too had cherished them a lot). The way he has written and the love and affection he had for him reflects in them. I enjoy reading them once in a while.

Jianhua, my old teacher phoned me today! We decided it would be better to correspond via mail since he is almost deaf. Even when I shouted, he could barely hear me. He tells me he is blind in one eye, and must use a special closed-circuit television to enlarge print to headline size in order to read it with his remaining eye.
He told me today that about 20 years ago, his daughter introduced him to a blind friend of hers. He took the woman over to a sculpture he had made of Don Quixote. As she touched each part of the sculpture, he described what she was touching.
She smiled more with each touch. When finished, she exclaimed, "I can see!" From that point on, Mr. Zulawski began doing collage art, hoping to bring art and communication of art to the blind through textures.
He teaches a third-grade blind student for an hour each week, and says HE is still the student. I think you and my old teacher have much in common: Heart!
Jianhua, you both awe and inspire me!
I must say that the most important people in my life have always been the Teachers, although seldom have I been back to tell them because we moved around so much.
Sometimes it did not show in the classroom but what they taught showed up later in my life. Do not be dismayed at the students who do not seem to show gain from your teaching!
Jianhua, what city are you teaching in? and what is the name of your school? The pictures is great and you look very nice and friendly....
Oh, my Jianhua....how great you look...fresh..and in good health...nice to see you..it has been a long time..We all know what a great teacher..you are...for sure....smiles...

Thank you all here, boys and girls.):
I am nice and fine, due to being kept in your prayers.
I am teaching Junior High English in the metropolis of Nanjing,
one private school on the Yangtze River.
It is about 1 hour's ride to Shanghai.
In fact, Mitjo our gard-friend is considering
paying a visit to China during his future global trip.
Yes, summer vacation is drawing near,and the children cannot wait for the coming.They are beginning to discuss their plans for the 2-month-long free time.The Goliath in my class told me,saying he will arrange his everyday agenda like this:morning -- attending an enhanced English summer school;
afternoon -- Going swimming to keep fit in the stadium;evening -- playing computer games at home.
But for most of them, they have not yet clearly thought about it.One told me:it all depends on ...
And for me,if I am not appointed to be involved in enrolling,I will go home to see if this year's swallows in the lobby are living on well, and also my lovely garden must be waiting for me to trim and hoe...
Well,till next time.
So glad to share with you.
Jianhua
Nice pictures Jianhua. It is really nice to see you here. Keep posting more:)
I don't understand what you mean about swallows in the "lobby"?
For five successive years, the swallows take my home as their inhabit. They perch inside onto the gate house, where there are no rain,no wind,no straight sunlight,or no man-made dangers threatening at them.I think swallows are the living things full of wisdom. Now I am working in a distant place, yet they are kept blessing in my heart.I am considering going back home to be with them during the coming summer vacation. ):
It sound so peace and quiet to reading was it cool outside? Here so hot from 9 am to after 6 pm.
Jinhua it is great to hear from you. I am glad you are doing well in your new school. You must be a very good teacher.
have a great summer holiday
Yes ,,,,, Jianhua...sound great..wish you a good school hoiliday...smiles..

Every early morning ,it is the time for the kids to have their morning self-reading.Sounds of reading alound and reciting will be heard from afar on the school lawns, and at the same time they can enjoy the birds, the flowers
and the wind that moves through the trees like a restless sea.Isn't it fine?
As a matter of fact, I am dreaming of going back to my old school days. ):
Now here is a song 'Edelweiss' from the sound of music,
which I will specially dedicate to our gardening friends.
Edelweiss,edelweiss,
Every morning you greet me.
Small and white,
Clean and bright,
You look happy to meet me.
Blossom of snow,
May you bloom and grow.
Bloom and grow forever.
Edeweiss,edelweiss,
Bless my homeland forever.
For so long a time,I have not heard such a wonderful song.
I was struck by the low and deep tune accompanied by the guitar. In the song the hero Captain, through the small flower edelweiss, expressed his strong will for his glorious future and the boundless love of his motherland -- Austria.
my favorite teacher(3&4thgrades) is now a helper with kegan and dayme-she is 85 and still wonderful!!!
***you will make a great impression on these children jianhau
:)
That's one of my favorite movies, Jianhua, and songs. It's beautiful. Did your classes sing along?
Jianhua,
Nice to meet you!
Your kids are just gorgeous! Being a teacher is fullfilling isnt it? Even through the hard times, you see something they have learned, it makes you smile when they smile!
((hugs)) Be safe!
-Jocelyn.
Jocelyn,
My kids once asked me,
'Sir,why are you always keeping smiles on your face?'
'Because I am with you.'
That was my answer.
Being with the kids really makes my life meaningful.
And that is enough for me.
Gardenwife,
This year's Children's Day (June 1),in the school hall was held
a concert by the kids and for the kids. And the epsilogue
was just from the sound of music --with the 'cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo',
the kids bid their farewell ...
Dori,
My kids like boating, and I like fishing.
Your Michigan owns numbers of beautiful lakes.
Who can tell that maybe someday my kids and I
would stroll about there boating and fishing, hehehe
Kids are lovely.
Sometimes they try to give a bribe
by slipping into my pockets some gums and sweets.
But this does not shake my restriction to them.
If they were caught behaving improperly,
I will raise my rod gently upon them.):
A good meaningful stare is enough - and that should be the amount of respect the teacher has to command. Use that rod very sparingly! It is a last-resort weapon. BTW, Jian, did you go through my post above? It's a long one.
Jian,
nice to meet you. i must say that i am impressed with your heart, love of teaching and inner light. it shines through brightly in your dialogue here with us. also, the swallows must feel a safety and fellowship with you, to have chosen your home as a place of rest and nourishment of body and soul..
i also wanted to thank you for the edelweiss information. that has always been a favorite song and it brought tears to my eyes this morning.
i have a couple of questions, if you will.
you asked us here to comment on your picture from head to toe, why?
what is the "phoenix evolution" and what significance does having your picture taken have?
and one more, you said....."I sat in meditation, confessing and re-reading myself out at the side of the fountain." what does re-reading myself mean? i meditate and look at my actions, trying to understand my weaknesses, faults and where i need improvement and where i need to give myself credit for a job well done, and seeking how i can improve myself. (affirmation is essential to my well being today because i did not receive it as a child and young adult.) it is very easy for me to look only at the bad and not the good, in my actions and thoughts. so therefore, i need to give myself the "pat on the back", i never got. in meditation, i also communicate with the god of my understanding and listen for god's knowledge, desires and tasks for me.
ok jian here is your lesson for the day. :-)
you said:"And one of my colleagues shot me down." this would mean that they had shot you with a gun, and that you had fallen and or died." or another caloquialism would be that your colleague (we'll assume a female here) had responded negatively to your amorous advances. example: you had asked your colleague for a date and she shot you down. :-) (big grin) more appropriately it should say: "and one of my colleagues shot a picture of me" or "my colleague took my picture". now that was your lesson for the day. :-) i bet your students would get a big kick out of hearing that yu had gotten an english lesson today. ;-) when i was a youngster, i attended a catholic school. most of the teachers were nuns also. in a religion class we had to write a small essay. i also made a big spelling error. i meant to write: ".....through out the catholic church." instead i wrote ".....throw out the catholic church." my teachers and parents got a real laugh out of this and when i was older i did too. it is a good thing they knew my heart was in the right place, or they certainly would have been quite angry with me. :-)
i look forward to reading more of your posts here and sharing your heart, knowledge and life.
a new gardening friend,
debi z
