Question about Ebay sellers...

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

odd thing, my spam filter and email on a whole 'misplaces' alot of things....

for example, my mother obviously has been trying to send me a virus for months.... I'll get her eventually :-)

Valrico, FL(Zone 9b)

Did you get the one sent through DG?

Let me know if Twyford accepts an order on the Crocs. Legally they're not allowed to sell them directly at this time.

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

doesn't appear they would accept it....

I understand how patented plants work... but what about ferns, I mean with Nephrolepsis it's pretty cut and dry as most boston-types do not spore. But if a Microsorium spore falls, and I pick it up and stick it in a rooting tray, is that illegal?

not that I'm thinkin it, just wondering how that works.
Like Patenting any Adiantum raddianum would be pointless... they pop up EVERYwhere in my ferneries.

Not at all. Numerous sports happen all the time, but with DNA patenting, none are truly identical. A simple test will determine if it's from one sport or another.

Thankfully, this technlogy is available. Unfortunately, it's also necessary. Numerous plants were shipped to Israeli TC labs in the 90's, and re-introduced to the US under different names. Same plant though. The new DNA mapping, makes the effort worthless.

Basically, if you harvest and propogate a spore, just like a guy across the Pacific does, you can produce a visually identical plant, but still have seperate patent based on the DNA

Just wondering... Does anyone here use any of the member's stores on this website? I haven't seen any posts about any of the stores. My mom and I were thinking of starting one, but if no one uses them, or even views them, I guess it wouldn't be very profitable, huh?

My opinion, and I have a store, is that they are almost worthless.

Hi Darius, I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you just a tiny bit.

I have made some sales on my store. I am getting about 40-60 hits a day (google and AOL know where I am.) Matter of fact, my first customer was a DG member. Granted I have made more Ebay sales than my store, but when I ship to the Ebay customers they get my businesscard for my member store.

Some of my member store sales came straight from a google inquiry.

Since I'm doing it part time, I haven't pushed to increase sales.

When I started my paint business I started by losing my shorts on the first 2 jobs I bid and won. I lived, learned and built that business on personal referrals. I always figured these things take time.
jmho,

Molly, I guess it's a matter of WHAT you (we) are selling, then.

Willacoochee, GA(Zone 8b)

Molly, I have a private site (not a member store) and 40-60 hits a day sounds pretty bad.
I spent maybe $300 this year on advertising and I average 28,000 hits a week.

I dunno, I just think you could be doing better with a private page and some good tags.

Well, shoot. We really wanted to start a store, thought this would be a good place for what we have to offer. Everyone here is so great, helpful, and informed. Wouldn't it be nice if all of us could support each other in the form of buying from each other. I've checked out a few of the members' stores, no one there seems to be selling what my mom and I would like to offer. I am a stay-at-home mom, my health problems keep me from being gainfully employed. My mother is diabled and lives with us. She and I thought it would be a neat way to make a little extra income. We are great believers in functionality. We rarely buy items solely for decorative purposes. Our items are all handmade, nice-looking, and perform a needed function. We've thought of E-Bay, but it's a very cold and super-competitive environment. We were looking for a down-home feel sort of place, and thought we'd found it! But, as most people here are so creative and laid-back, we prolly wouldn't do very well. Maybe instead of a store, we should have a bartering community; trading goods and services amongst each other instead of trying to make money? Anyone interested?
