Searching

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

When searching for a specific post, by a specific member, in a specific forum...

I got two pages of results ...but it won't let me view the second page. It drops the member & forum part and comes up with 20+ pages when I try to go to page 2.

Yea, it's always done that to me too , but I thought it was just my computer.

Been doing that to me for as long as I've been here (June 2003). Figured it was a little quirky and not a big deal. Never was a life or death thing to find something and I usually figured out another search criteria selection that got me what I was looking for.

Thanks for reporting this one, Sue. It happened to me the other day (took me a couple searches, lots of headscratching and muttering "huhhhhhh?" to no one in particular, before I realized what was happening, lolol.) But of course once I got what I was looking for, I promptly forgot to say anything to Dave.

They say memory's the second thing to go. Funny, I can't remember what the first one was...

I've run into this a lot when there are more than 2 pages in the search but I think I've always been able to get past page 1... now it won't let me even do that.

Searching the DG forums is a nightmare that I want to fix sometime. The forums have over 250 megabytes of information contained and searching all that data is computationally costly.

I have a new server enroute to Tennessee right now, which is a 64 bit machine made by AMD, and will allow me to do more advanced programming without worrying as much about performance. When that server is setup and installed, the time will be right to see about a new search engine re-write for the forums.

Thanks Dave.

Yes... I can see how hard the wheels are churning when searching the forums! It is pretty handy to narrow it down by forum and/or member post.

What? I always figured Dave had one of those two story high Cray supercomputers running this stuff. I read about the Crays in the "Techno-peasant survival manual". Well that was 20 years ago so they can probably put that much into a box as big as a pack of Camels now. Is 64 bit big? I figured we would be into giga-bits by now. Shoe! I need non-geek support here! "Don't worry, keep clicking" Frank
