and this is what was about 20-25 ft away from my baby seedlings. There were two of them, one disappeared before I got the camera. This one is 7-8 ft long, the other one had to be 10-12 ft long.(look in center of photo, in front of the cattails)
Root, I hate to tell ya this, but the little monkey went in after the gator and I've not seen him since!
I went out to check on my seedlings........
Oh my god!!! It took me a minute but I see him. Susie they could be behind you on the bank and grab you and pull you down in to the water and munch munch Cala stew!!
But worse, they could lie down on your seedlings for their afternoon siesta!
I just had another thought. Remember the velociraptors in Jurassic Park?
Oh Kell, you are too funny LOL!
LOL...I can't stop laughing! (At Kell of course)
Kell, you've got us all laughing again. It's a good Friday.
Gosh Kell, I hope they do not squish my good seedlings. They are on a nice sunny part of the bank, where the soil is very good.
Now I am also afraid to turn my back on the water when I go out there!! I wonder if I put up a nice fence???
Just wait until you have blooms, those gaters will be inviting all their friends over to view the good- smelling posies!
Be careful!
Bonnie
ah yes... welcome to the subtropics Calla!!! the gator got the monkey.... ??? jeez I thought they preferred things like terriers and cats..
Hope they don't nest to close or you won't be able to go check on your babies. That is one for sure time they will attack. Please be very careful.
Susie, ever seen the movie Lake Placid with Betty White? If not rent it and watch!!! Then you'll know what to do with those gators!(LOL)
Keep your animals away form the waters edge if you have any. We've had several people here that live on golf courses to loose dogs to hungry gators.
Gator Ride!!!!!!!
I hear they taste like chicken, but I think that is the Chickens saying that!
David, I am afraid to let my cats out now and yes, I saw that movie. That's all I could think of today......a big gator that was going to jump out and get me!
MzM, one of the neighbor's dogs is missing part of his tail after a swim in the resaca!
Oh my, Susie. I couldn't stand living that close to the gators. I'd be afraid I'd be their next meal. I couldn't sleep good for dreaming about trying to get away from them. LOL
And to think,my wife fears spiders!
Oh, I've got a big black widow spider in the box with the dog biscuits in the garage. I've got to get out there tomorrow and murder him or her.
This was the little one, lol. Y'all should see the big daddy gator! Worst thing about him, he swam away and I just knew he was hiding in the grass somewhere waiting for dinner!
Susie, I'd have been heading for the hills. LOL
Those Gators do love the Newbie in the neighborhood!I bet he is just loving seeing the new gal with a camera!
Come here my pretty, you can get a better picture from that outcropping!
Susie, each of them have picked out which part they want. LOL One wants the legs the other the breast and baby wants the neckbone. LOL
Now Root, were you there watching me??? There is a little piece of bank that sticks out into the water, and that's where I was standing! I kept thinking "can I run faster than he can get up on the bank and eat me for dinner?" and that's when I decided to get out of there!
LOL I would have also, Susie. In fact, I probably wouldn't have been there. LOL
My goodness Ada, run Susie run. Ada has your body divided up and eaten!
Kell, that's how i would have felt if i was out there with gators. LOL
Oh Susie, They can move like lightning when they want to.
But I'd probably do the same thing you did tho . lol
You need to watch a few Crocodile Hunter programs on Discovery channel ( I think )
Hope Goofy or Goober, which ever one you have , comes home when he is tired of riding that bug bull alligator.
Yeeee _Hawww ! !
Susie, just put some Purina 'Gator Chow out in a bowl for them and they wil leave you alone. LOL.
Seriously, those things can run VERY fast, so don't think you can outrun them!
As much as I want to loose weight but not this way LOL!
Oh my word!!! I think its time you get yourself a super high powered telescopic lens Susie! Please be careful!
On the news this week - west coast of FL: 74 year old lady was tending her flowers in her back yard by the lake. 10' Alligator got her by the leg, but she was able to fight free. He came back and got her by the arm and was pulling her into the water when her husband got there and pulled her away and out of the water. She was badly injuried, but alive! Every year in FL we have stories of pets and people that are not so lucky. This is the start of the mating season and they become very aggressive. I remember being told that an Alligator can out run you, and if you ever have to run from one, run zig-zag, it slows them down to turn.
Ooow, gives me the creeps to think about one chasing me. LOL
Jeez, I'm glad I live in the land-locked tundra zone up here. No gators. Tho, I think in the summer we have 'skeeters just as big and just as nasty.
geez, gives me the creeps thinking of them mating. What a thought. Take a picture for me. That means baby alligators Susie. All over.
That poor woman! Was she right on the water?
...and a mean gator mama watching her nest!
Oh Susie...you are so brave! I would have run for cover screaming and yelling (and thinking one was after me)!! I don't even like the looks of them on TV. Next time out...take a BIG gun!
Geeze! Suzie! I'm glad I live in Calif. & only have to worry about mountian lions & bears! Although zig zagging doesn't help there! They can Zig faster than I could Zag! LOL
I know how you feel about turning your back on the water. When I go down to my woodland, along a creek very wooded. I always feel like something is watching me. We are putting up a electric fence soon so I won't have to worry about that much longer. The M. lions here eat peoples cats & small animals. The bears mostly go for trash cans & fruit trees in season. Susie, You ought to put up a fence!
Ahelms, It's a "she" black widow, the males are brown & small.
Be careful!
Bj
Oh my goodness gracious!!! Susie you are a very brave woman!!! Our own Alligator Dundee :)
I think we all should supply you with a VERY good telescopic lens....as much as we appreciate the pictures we want you to stay away from the beasts!
Calily...how far/close are the gators to your garden?
It makes me nervous just looking at them! Even on TV, like someone just said.
We just recently started to get coyotes, racoon and mtn. lions in the neighborhood, once the woods where they lived got disturbed. That is bad enough for me....but alligators!!! I can't even imagine. I think I would stay indoor and stay with indoor plants!
lol Kell! Pics of mating? SD I love the Alligator Dundee! :o)
for educational purposes only Shelly! I just can't figure out how they do the deed. LOL
I guess my Hosta eating Deer and burrowing voles aren't so bad afterall. At least they won't eat me!
This thread makes me almost glad to live in zone 5! I have been so envious of you Tropical zoners! Look around every now and then! Ha!
