Is This Normal?

Northern, IN

I'm a newbie and my very first purchase was a packet of 35 pelleted Impatiens seeds. Inside there were only 19 pelleted seeds and a half ounce of dust. In ths hobby is it normally necessary to buy two to get one?

Sow the dust... you may find that the rest of the seeds are in it. (It is not a normal experience for me)...

I have had trouble with pelleted seeds twice either growing poorly or germination both times the companies took care of me.

Harris Seeds and H.P.S.

I will say my seed comes in a bubble wrap to protect it from crushing.

Where did you find the pelleted impatient seed I would like to buy some next year. Ernie

Ernie: The pelleted seeds were from Plantation Products which I bought at a regional superstore - Menard's. I since learned that Plantation has its own website and I have placed an order directly from them. ( a $17 minimum). I'm expecting that the pelleted seeds will be less likely to be crushed if ordered direct. Hope this helps you.

Hi Dave.

I've never heard of "pelleted" seeds. what are they? seeds inside pellets? I'd be disappointed to.

BTW - welcome to Daves!

Hi Karrie:
Yes "Pelleted" seeds are small seeds made bigger for a 66 year old like I am. I'm not sure whether the coating contains any nutrients, etc but it sure makes handling them easier. BTW South Bend is exactly where you remember it just south of the Michigan line. I thought of you last night as someone who might be able to shape up the webmaster of the one zipcode/hardiness zone website we know of saying that he or she has a great idea if they could just get their numbers right.
With your energy and knowledge I think you are the person for the job. Have a great day!

Karrie;
I just read the tailend of our other thread and it looks like a solution may be forthcoming. Check it out and let me have your thoughts.

Some seeds are hardly visible to the naked eye, these are the ones that are usually pelleted. I have bought pelleted petunia, and portulaca from Big Lots.

Welcome dwdruley,
Have you seen a wonderful feature we have here called Garden Watchdog?
http://gardenwatchdog.com/
A really great place to post about successes or failures of sellers you buy from and a chance to read what others have said about a seller before you buy from them. Sometimes I have slammed on the brakes to my order before sending after reading what others have posted & sighed a big sigh of relief.
Hope you like it here & get as much knowledge and enjoyment out of it as I do. :^)
Donna
