cici--the superstition that I have is way darker and more of a wine/burgundy color than blue/purple. Is that how your iris appears and is mine wrong? I got it from the co-op last year. Anyone else get that one and what is the color?

hi limeylisa... the superstition i have is darker in person then in this pic... both days i took the pic it was overcast and so the pics make it look like its all blueish purple... in person the bottom petals look black and the top ones look dark blackish purple.. but not burgandy... wonder if it depends on the amount of shade they get?

I think we'll all laugh along with you!! Share the joke, Sue! Looks like it was a belly roller!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

yes please share the story. that is a great picture.

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

It started out with a picture similar to this one but from a different view point...Teresa, (gardening friend in red) after realizing that a picture had been taken of her from behind, went a little crazy...went after me demanding that the picture be deleted because "Ï don't want anyone to have a picture of my fat butt!" The rest of us were laughing so hard that we were in tears! Of course the other picture was deleated, I really didn't have a choice! The original idea was to have a picture of the hosta that the two of them were digging from Sues garden to share with her friends.. LOL ( : Bev : ) I'll never get a shot of her from behind again!! Other people in the picture are Ted (Sues DH) and Peggy (Iowarons DW)

Aw, it's never to late for a flower picture! That's a real beauty.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree with Llilyfan! Do you know the name of that tulip heidi?

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7a)

It's Blue Parrot

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Bert!!

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7a)

If you have Black Parrot, cut one flower off with a real short stem, maybe about an inch long and float this flower in a saucer that you put on the table after you fill it with water. Very dramatic since Black Parrot will open up a lot wider and flat than the Blue Parrot will. You can also do this with Estella Rijnveldt and Flaming Parrot.

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh.....I don't have any of these!! I'll have to add one or more to my shopping list for fall planting so I can try this.

Elkhart, IA(Zone 5a)

Bleek, I've never heard of doing that before! Ive done this with roses but never even thought of doing it with tulips! Great idea! Thanks!

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7a)

That's what I am here for

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

i have also found that tulip petals dry nicely for poutpourri
