I called the cops on my next door neighbors

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I tried to rationalize with him, in tears, about his dog barking at me. He closed the door, the whole time, when I went there to MEET this dog, go get her to sniff me, be friends....

something is going on back there. so I called my friends (have some). been off and on the phone all night with them. I think it's either meth of a growing thing.

Their problem. And their ferocious dog. And their lack of understanding got them into trouble. Not my problem anymore. Yes, I have alot of cop friends and don't drag them into the equation unless I have to. Sorry about their luck....

They probably have the the ferocious dog because they are manufacturing or growing a controlled substance. However, it's always hard to make a decision about calling the cops with no evidence. You can end up with more problems if they are the vengeful type and you never know. Also, they could just be the kind of people who feel macho about owning a big, mean dog. I hope this all simmers down.

Karrie I did the same thing last year, I was making calls all the time to give details like, car descriptions with tag numbers, times the traffic came, descriptions of people as best I could, you name it if I thought it was in the least bit associated with possible drug dealing I wrote it down and called the narcotics unit. Several months later after calls from me and several neighbors the police raided the house. I kinda wish they had called me fist because I know I told them that these people left around 10 pm to go pic up more stuff, if I had been asked I think they woulda been caught with alot more, but, they did get caught with cocaine and other drug paraphanelia(sp) and I thought they were just dealing weed. Go figure.
Now dont get me wrong if someone wants to do a little sumpin in thier own home now and again I dont have a problem with that, altho personaly I dont ever, but when someone is going to be dealing in MY neighborhood and endangering MY kids then I have a BIG problem with it.
And as far as I know the police do NOT say who they got the info from, they do not point to you and say "they did it", if they did then no one would call to report this stuff.

You all may have just SAVED your neighborhood! There's always the possibility they were running a Meth lab, and if that blows up it takes out a good part of the neighborhood. They just closed one down here in a large apartment complex. An accident just waiting to happen!

PS If you think they were growing pot inside, call your power company, they will call the police. They by-pass the meters because it takes a HUGE amount of electricity to run the grow lights. Sometime they even tap into a neighbors electricity, so watch your bills.

A couple of years ago, we had a home that we rented to a really nice young couple who also lived with his father. After three months, they moved with no notice. While in the house cleaning we found glass pipes and other things I didn't recognise (DH did). One evening we were painting when there was pounding on the upstairs door and downstairs doors at the same time. I opened the door to cops with guns drawn and pointed at me! City, county sheriffs, a couple even had FBI on their jackets!

They were too late to bust the people, I'm just glad I got my house back in one piece! After I cleaned out my underwear!

Here is one of the best "Bad Neighbor" stories.

SPRINGSONG: My neighborhood used to be Miami FL. I moved "up state" to a quiet little town where I thought I wouldn't have to be so alert to my surroundings. The Meth lab bust happened here just after I moved here. It's a sad fact that we all have to be vigilent no matter where we live.

Well, I discussed this with hubby about the dogs back there, and put my foot down. My gardening project is ON HOLD until we get a non see-through fence up. Having a ferocious rottweiler barking at me, within inches of my face is just flat out too much for me. I want to ENJOY gardening, not "tolerate" it. He said in a couple of weeks, when he get's his income tax return he will put one up. Sure hope he means it, because until then, I'm not going back there. Had enough!

I have a wonderful neighbor that took measurements today and offered an "old" fence they took down. That was all it took for me to tell hubby. He insists on a new one. Either way is fine with me, as long as I can feel secure and peaceful in my own yard. :)

anti-freeze.

Golden, CO(Zone 5b)

I was thinking pepper spray...

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

ammonia in a squirt gun....
i was told this actually by a cop friend. he said that it is an irritant to the dog, but is not life threatening.
i never tried it tho. the neighbors got rid of the dog before i had too, but not before the dog got my dog

Antifreeze will kill a dog, don't do that unless you want a law suit. And, I'm not to sure of spraying ammonia in the direction of a meth lab either.......

I just read in this week's paper that they invaded a methlab right down the road from me, almost in my back yard. I had no idea. Talking to someone today, they said that they had one next door to them and the boy that was making/using it broke into their basement early one morning, set it on fire, and stole their dog. They've just been to court for this and were upset because this boy grew up at their house, you know next door all the time, etc. It made me wonder if these people could have been responsible for the theft of my dog in December. This is really scary. There have been many in our county recently and I don't understand it.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

They say it is a big problem, and getting bigger everywhere. People are addicted to it like heroin. It is a fairly easy thing to manufacture in one's home. Very scary.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

It may be easy to manufacture (I have no clue), but I do understand that the process and the raw "ingredients" are VERY dangerous to those nearby.

When we moved from the Tulsa, OK area four years ago, the newspaper was reporting that police were going to stop doing meth lab raids because of the danger of toxic fumes and explosion.

And if the thought of someone running a meth lab next door doesn't scare you because you *know* you live in a "safe" neighborhood where that just couldn't happen, consider that there are mobile labs, with people cooking this stuff in vans driving down the road. Scary, scary times we live in :-(

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Indeed, very scary. There is a HUGE meth problem in our area, and unfortunately, I am finding out that it is spreading all over the country. It is so bad here, that you can't even buy Sudafed without personally asking the pharmacist for it. It is over the counter, but they no longer stock it on the shelves.

The children that live there are "weird" - they don't have it all together. I wonder if it has something to do with exposure.

I am just very glad that hubby finally agreed to buy a tall fence so I can garden in peace back there, away from their dogs, and their weird problems. The police will have to handle the rest.

Many of us feel that, oh we should mind our own business,, and dont we all have lives to keep in tack.
I do sometimes think that when you get that gut feeling
that something isnt NORMAL, it is ok to get involved.

THis can go in many different catagories, perhaps an elderly
neighbor, a child being treated poorly... and goodness
drugs... is there any question on their place in society.

Some childs parent appreciates you, for the small ones are the first target.

good job.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I think you did right Karrie. Its such a shame. We had a raid at a home a few houses down. Im guessing it was haz.mat. that we saw. 4 blocks were closed off, people in those "space suits" cops all over, it was just unreal.
I agree with eyes. Anti-freeze will kill a dog, I would either go with the pepper spray until the fence is up, or maybe try to make friends with the dog?? Buy some cheap dog bones, and every time you go out there, toss one to him/her.
I wish you a speedy fence project so you can get back to your gardening.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Speaking of doggie doo - I am so mad! I was out in my slippers today, working on my chicken wire trellis for my cukes and WHAM - stepped into a land mine! I want so badly to be nice to the neighbors that have this dog "Lucy" and just don't know how to tell them. They are young, have little kids - and just got this golden retreiver that seems to poop everywhere except her own yard. I know that first of all I need to calm down, so that I can ask them "nicely" to either fence the dog in or put her on a leash. If I went over there now, we would probably never be friends. :(

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Your nicer than me, I woulda thrown what was left in thier yard and wouldnt care what I hit. I just dug up a bunch of bamboo that grew into my yard from the neighbors yard. Now dont get me wrong I like bamboo, but not in my small yard and not around the kids swingset. I dug under the fence where it grew and shoved it all back in thier yard. I was not happy at the time when I found it and had just finished mowing the lawn and cleaning things up with no help from kids, and I was not happy whatsoever to see this stuff growing in my yard. My 4 yr old had a great time helping me dig it up tho. That was alot of fun to watch. And it made me feel better to give them back thier plant.
