I wish....

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

there was a way to copy an entry - even just the famly/genus/cultivar - from the PDB into my garden journal, automatically. So many times I see something I have in my garden in the PDB and I think, if only I could collect that info to one place, I'd have a comprehensive record of what's in my garden without much work on my part.

You can use 'Copy' (Ctrl+c) and 'Paste' (Ctrl+v) for a lot of it.

Yes, that's true... I am just spoiled by things by eBay's Watch List and "click here to save to favorites". I just wish there was an easy way.

It would be nice; in fact, Dave and I briefly discused a "wish list" kind of application for the Garden Bookworm (one that would allow you to create a list to print out and give to family members for gift ideas, etc. It was something we chose to postpone for the time being.

I like eBay's "watch list" too, but I am constantly reminded that eBay only lets me watch a maximum number of auctions at one time (*grin*) I'm guessing it's probably because of the memory it takes to allow all users to do that. Same kind of issues we'd have here. Definitely food for thought!

If you're logged into the plants database, is there any way a button to "Add to my Garden Journal" would work?

I agree, it sure would be nice!!!

Could yu just add a hyperlink to the PDB page you want? That way you could link each of your journal entries to the correct page and reach it with a single click when you need to check for additional information without having to search for it again.

Actually if you type in the genus and species name, the PDB will create a hyperlink to your entry. The one problem is for the plants with lots of cultivars...somewhere around here is another thread where we were discussing the possible alternatives ;o)

Terry, that is very cool! Has it always had that function or is it new?

It's been there for a while - can't tell you exactly how long. The problem is that if you're listing a daylily or hosta in your journal, the system can't/won't match on cultivar name...

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

The problem with the daylilies is that many don't list a species for daylilies. This sparked another request... I guess I should put it on it's own thread....

And....I'd like to point out (again) that if the Genus and Cultivar match but no Species is entered the auto-hyperlink doesn't show up in the Journal. That would GREAT to get fixed when Dave aint' got nuthin' to do!! (Hang in there, Dave, with 93,000+ members you know that the "wish list" is gonna be long. I feel for ya!).

I don't know if you know this or not. But what I do is when I like up a plant on the pdb I right click it and add it to my favorites, in a file that I named Plant That I Have. Hope this works for you.
