picturelady posted: Root MD...are those some of your Elephant Ears in the photo?
I've seen a couple of Root's photos and the elephant ears look like Up Rights to me, but I could be wrong. It looks like there might be a banana plant there too. Upees will thrive in sun or shade, they love morning sun and some shelter in the pm or, without enough water, and when it's really hot, they will sunburn on the edges. I LOVE Upees, they are wonderful, easy to grow, green plants...SLike
3 suggestions for pink brug....which would you choose & why?
Upees....that is a new term to me!! What are they?? I am learning so much all of a sudden again! I love to learn! Although it makes it hard to get away from this computer to do other things....I have brug seeds to plant this morning and I am still sitting here!
I cannot imagine taking plants in and out for the winter & summer....yes, kell...I think we must be very fortunate to live in this climate! Do your brugs stay out all year too?
It is slang Margie, instead of up yours you say UPees and then dave does not censor you.
Some of mine stay out and some go into the hoophoue. They can tolerate it if the temps do not stay down too long and if htey are under trees. If out with no protection, the top gets freezer burn.
Kell, I guess I don't understand how the term fit in the post above mine?! Hummmm....
I e-mailed you with my opinion on the daylily you asked about!
Margie, upees are ears that stand straight up. If you look at the one in Doc's picture that is between the two bananas, you will see how the leaves point straight up. The one in this picture is NOT an upee. The point on the leaves goes down. On the upee's, the point stands almost straight up, pointing to the sky. Some ears point out, some down. There are many different kinds.
OK...thank you, brugie...I will have to research those some more. I do like the ones in your photo, too though. What are they called? It looks like a nice size, too.
I was kidding you Margie, my answer seemed more interesting than Brugies at the moment I wrote it. Upright Elephant Ears! Or Up Yours??? And I must have been feeling a tad hostile to life. LOL. I wish I had the room for lots of the colored ears. Margie, do you have alot of room?
I got your email and thanks for doing that!
Margie, Eclipse gave me that one and it didn't have a tag, so I have no idea what to call it. Sorry....I'm not up on names of ears yet, I just know I like the tropical look they give the place.
Room....well, yes and no. My home is on 1/3 acrea...just a corner lot ! I do have some room, but not developed into beds yet. My sons just built me 2 4'X8' beds....but I filled those quickly with daylilies from containers.
What I need is less decorative rocks...which I am slowly getting rid of and more curved beds... the soil is clay and hard to dig, but if I had a good digger...(my DH was digging but now is in need of a hip replacement, so he is off my list...still willing but not able!) So, yes, I do have land to plant in yet, but no, not until it is prepared! Don't worry though, I am working on it...and for now there are always containers!!
Maybe you could visit when you get back...and give me some more planting bed ideas!!
