3 suggestions for pink brug....which would you choose & why?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Monika said that 'Taylor Dawn' brug that I asked her about would be a good choice for a newbie like myself, as it is hardy and blooms well. She also recommended 'Pink Beauty' & 'Rosamond '!
If you were choosing a pink...your first...which would you choose and why. Can you also tell me the difference in the colors of the three. I have seen photos, but sometimes they are not true to color, I have found. Are any of them more blue/pink or more peachy/ pink?
I would love to have your input...also if there are others you would recommend! I am waiting for Monika's book that I have on order & would like to be thinking about this before it arrives! Thank you, Margie

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

When I look at Ecuador Pink I see a bluer shade of pink than the others. I'm not saying it's blue, just a bluer pink. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

After this summer we will have a great selectionof pinks I am betting. Soem pople here are growing incredible pinks as we chat. LOL

But of the ones available, my first choice would be L'Amour. It is so dark. It is an orangey pink. MY favorite brug is Rosamond for I love the shape, size and it is so easy and so floriferous. Where I live though it is a lighter pink. Butterfly is gorgeous and darker here.

EP has never been a favorite of mine. I do not enjoy its shape. However, it seems to have darkerr pink genes though it is very light in color here.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I would probably choose Rosamond also. Mainly because of the sheer number of blooms on her. Butterfly is very nice and has a great smell. I wouldn't be without her myself. I've not had Taylor Dawn and I'm not that crazy about Ecuador Pink other than for breeding purposes. She is okay, but doesn't really put on a good show for me here.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Liz, kell and brugie...thank you for your comments & opinions. You have given me some more to look up! Sounds like I could not go wrong with Rosamond. Any opinions on Pink Beauty?

When I posted '3 suggestions', I really didn't mean only 3 people could give suggestions!! I am open to more!!! more & even some more!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Margie, some people feel Rosamond and PB are the same or at least very similar.
Rosamond is hard to beat for profusion of blooms. If I were on my home computer I would post you a few pics. It thrilled me all last summer.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

picturelady, Rosamond is outstanding. I don't have Taylor Dawn but it is lovely too.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

The last post is a picture of Kells Rosamond. Sooo many flowers! http://davesgarden.com/t/418738/Rosamond

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Shelly! And it will be probably darker for you, Margie. Here pinks are lighter for some evil reason!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell, I can see what you mean about the profusion of blooms on Rosamond! Your brug is beautiful. Thanks, Shelly for posting it for me.
Any suggestions on where to make a purchase of a rooted Rosamond from? I am in zone 9...SJ,CA.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee, I do not know if I have a rooted one left. I just sent out lot of plants last week. And I cut my huge Rosamond back and sent out the pieces to a good friend for her to root up just last week. If you can't find any I will look when I get home.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell, Thank you so much...I really wasn't hinting to be given one (although I guess they do root up easily). That would be great of you, but is there somewhere to purchase them too ? I checked the Angels site, but they are not open until June.

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

Great Thread. I learn so much here. I'm putting Rosamond on my most wanted list too.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have Rosamond and Pink Beauty and Rosamond bloomed much more for me. Ecuador Pink is a good one for me, but it is very sensitive to cold and harder to keep over in the winter.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Rosamond is good choice for beginners. She is robust and flowers easy.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

OK...Rosamond it shall be for me!!

Now I need to find a source for it! I will check locally, does anyone have any other suggestions. I checked the Angels site, but Tracey is not open again until June. I really haven't been able to find any other site on the web for one.

Does anyone have a good web site for ordering one? Thank you. Margie

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Why don't you send Tracey an email and tell her that you will be wanting one as soon as she has one ready. I know she is having some family health problems right now, but Tracey is the best and her AngelsbyAshley are great plants. I know she will help you as soon as she can. Spring is a hard time for trading or just giving plants away. By now, most of us are down to having only what we are going to raise in our own yard. If you don't get a Rosamond this spring, several of us should have cuttings this fall.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Brugie,
I took your advice and e-mailed Tracey. I told her, no pressure, but if she would just reserve one for me for when she does begin to ship again. Thank you for the suggestion. I am sorry her Mom is having health problems. Our plants are important...but family comes first! I hope everything works out well for them. Margie

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

My choices would be Pink Beauty or Rosamond for size, color and frequent re-blooming,Ecuador Pink for beauty, color and profusion of bloom, and Cotton Candy for the unusual light pink which goes all the way up the corolla, and it's great fragrance and long lasting blooms.
Now,that said,I have not had L'Amour to bloom. That might move to the top of the list after I see it.And then,of course, there's Rothkirk....hmmmmm....how can you pick just three?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

gone2seed...actually I am trying to pick just ONE pink for now. You see I get addicted easily, which I can see I am starting to do with brugs. I am trying to slow myself down. I have gone from 6 daylilies in 2002 to 170 at present....I just do not have the space to have my brug collection grow as fast as my daylily collection did! Otherwise I would take one of EACH of everything!! Not just one of each color!! Anyone know what I mean?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I know what you mean. I went nuts with brugs and am trying to hold myself back from having one of every elephant ear there is out there. LOL! It isn't working very well, but I'm doing better with the ears than I did with the brugs.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Elephant Ears....I just started to see mention of them! Where can I see more?? I am slowly getting into hosta's too! Looks like I am among other easily addicted people here. I feel right at home! Actually I just love it. I go to sleep and wake up thinking flowers!! And dream about them in between! Great fun! I can't think of a better way to spend my retirement! Although I do also love photography!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I love taking pictures also! Gardening and picture taking sure seems to go together. If you want, just pop some pics of your daylilies with your brug posts here. I would love to see your favorites. I am just getting into them myself. Last night I debated for an hour if I should buy some from Wayside. Buy one get one free. What do you think of this one?

I looked and the colors on other sites were not so pretty so I wondered if the colors are enhanced on this site.

You can find some threads on the tropicals forum or just do a search online for aroids, alocasia, or colocasia. There are others too, but that will get you excited enough. If you click on Rootdoctor's name and go to the threads he has started, you will find some nice looking ears. Here is one I had last year and never did find out what it was called. Not sure it lived over the winter in the basement, but it was cute. I had about 12 or 15 kinds of ears last year.

did I tell you Brugie, I finally bought an ear. I could not resist, it was as big as a huge coconut! At Walmart for only I think $6.99. just a green leafed one

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Shirley, what plant is the gray leafed one to the right?

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

For Kell:
This is a favorite...very inexpensive...ROSE EMILY...

and lastly...BLACK AMBROSIA....don't get me wrong, I have many more photos, but I think I have posted enough on this brug forum!
Most of my daylilies are new to me since last year. So there is about 100+ of them that I have not seen bloom yet! This is going to be a great new bloom year for me!

Hopefully I will be back up and running smoothly after Mothers Day! We got great news at the Doctors office!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Liz, that is a branch from a Cassia plant. They fold up at night. One of my favorite tropicals.

Had to come back and say that the leaves really aren't gray. They are green. It was just the way the light was hitting it, I think, that made it have that gray cast.

Well Margie, those pics are just great. The last one is breathtaking! I must look for Rose Emily though I bought tons at Home Depot and Lowes even though Sue told me not to. I planted them all over my front bed after I dug out lots of old plants. Now I am out of room again! LOL. I am looking for the perfect purple one.

Anyway thanks for the pictures!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Love all the lily pictures. Rose Emily is beautiful. I may have to invest in a few daylilies again.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Root MD...are those some of your Elephant Ears in the photo? They are very large plants, aren't they!? Do they like full sun or some shade too? Are there smaller ones available? I have to check out the sites brugie gave me yesterday for them!

Tracey, so happy to hear that you had good news from the MD for your mother! Great news!

Thank you all for your comments on the photos! I will have many more this summer...although now I am anxious to do more brug photographing....they make beautiful photos!

Edited to include brugies name for the links!

I think Doc is out hunting mushrooms right now. The two big plants in his picture right in front are bananas. In between them is an ear and I see another on the right of the picture. You should try bananas too. They are awesome plants.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

they all wish they lived where you do Margie!!!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

for the climate, kell?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Because you can leave your tropical garden in year round. Most of our friends here dig them out every fall and lug them into their houses then lug them back out and replant them. They have no concept on how cannas around here become weeds for they spread so fast.
