Hi Dave et al -
I just replied to an inquiry in the PDB forum and as an after thought checked to see how long the member had been around Dave's. Only a couple of weeks, so I went back and welcomed the member.
Has it ever been suggested that "New" members (say +/- a month or so) have their ID's tagged with a little "New!" icon?
Kind of like you tag the messages with a "Yes" or "No".
Just a thought.
Noticing "New" Members
Good idea. I check to see how long posters who are new to me have been members, for that very reason. That would make it a little easier, and prompt lots more greetings.
maggiemoo, mouse over the person's name on the left side of the page in the forum, and it tells you when they joined.
Cheri'
Yes, it does do that sundry, but it would be nice to see all those registered within the last 30 days have a little red star or something, to prompt us to welcome them. I had once suggested to Dave to have a "welcome" to new subscribers (much like the happy birthday column). He seemed to like the idea and said to keep an eye out for it.

Thank you......don't know how I missed the mouse-over thingy, that works just fine for me!
I don't know....I kinda know what Happenstance was getting at.....I'm kind of on the fence.
I've been on some internet membership sites with forums and they have a member status line below the member's name that says things like.....Junior Member, Senior Member, Top 10 Poster, etc. I like that because you get some "sense" of the community here when you join and figure out who all the 'ole DG'ers are, who's the "authorities" on certain subjects (by the volume of their posts). It would sure help as a Newbie to know some of that stuff upfront. (Imagine how I felt when I FINALLY realized "Terry" wasn't the really hip, gentleman gardener that was every garden gal's dream guy!!! {No offense, Terry})
On the other hand, I also see it as a "classification" of members and that always leaves a bad taste in my mouth anyway.
But, hey!! I loved the Uber Gardener tag!! Helped me ID a couple more folks on here and confirm my suspicions that they were A-1 gardeners to be listening to!!
Mouse-over doesn't work for me. Could be my Browser (Safari) or that I use a Mac.
pppfffttt...hip gentleman gardener, huh? No, that would be Paul James. Well, I dunno...he's kinda doofey, but what fun it would be to hang around him occasionally, then send him home and let his wife cope with the bad puns the rest of the time.
You're right, I'm not a guy. And my kids would knock each other down to be the FIRST to tell you I'm not hip. Even if I think I am ;o)
I gotta tell you, it really ticked off a non-subscribed member when I (ever-so-gently, I thought) corrected her misperception of me (she, too thought I was a guy. Don't know if she thought I was hip or gentlemanly, tho.)
Hooo, boy. You'da thought I tracked horse manure on her freshly-mopped kitchen floor by the time she got through with me. I guess the realization that I wasn't who/what she thought I was sent her over the top.
Just can't bring myself to spell my name as my mother intended (Teri) Yep, mom knows best, and many parts of my life woulda been a whole lot easier if I had just listened to her. (Yeah, that was for my mom's benefit, in case she's reading this *grin*)
More seriously, I think you'll find the threads on "Queen Gasbags" quite enlightening on who gets top billing for volume of postings. If you need help finding them let me know ;o)

Terry, I get mail all the time from newbies who think I'm a guy, so I understand, LOL. (Just think... I'm a LOT older than you so I've been getting it MUCH longer!)
Terry -- LOL!!! Well I think you're hip even if you're kids don't. I mean "Uber"?!!! Come on...how hip is that!
Went searching for Gas Bags and read through 2 complete threads so far (they were 2001 I think it was). Hilarious!! Still have more to read. Thanks for the suggestion!
So, Dave.....whadya think about have "Top 10 poster" tags on the lucky few? Maybe update it quarterly somehow???
