questions about ebay

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I have things for sale on ebay, and this is weird, their listed at the same price, several diff things, and they each have 3 bids on them, and one is 6.50 the other is 4.75 why does that happen, they both started out as 4.00 now they have the same amount of bids, but one is so much higher than the other, and this happens all the time. go figure. I can't understand that, anybody know why. can't ask ebay, can't ever get through to find out anything there.

It's to do with how much bidders are prepared to pay. If you go to an live auction, you have in your mind a price and you bid until that price is reached.

ebay does something similar. I tell eBay how much I want to bid up to and it bids in my place (as the auctions last much longer). This is called proxy bidding.

So I see your item for $4.00 but am prepared to pay $5. I tell eBay I'm prepared to pay $5. and they will start the bidding at your initial price so to begin with my bid would be at $4.

Should another bidder come along and like your item too, they may bid $4.50. As mine was the higher bid, eBay would bid for me and push the price to $4.70 and will continue to do this until someone outbids my initial $5 set.

You have had bidders that are prepared to pay different amounts for your things and eBay has been the auctioneer as it were in noting the amounts people are bidding at. Thats how the prices are different. In the helpdesk at eBay lookup proxy bidding and there will be a better explaination for you there

Kathy,
Thanks for asking your question. I don't sell on Ebay but have noticed what you are talking about by looking at the bid history and wondered the same thing. You've just helped me figure this out. Thanks Baa for poviding the answer.
