PDB Hyperlink in Journal

Lenexa, KS(Zone 6a)

I noticed about a month or so ago that now my Journal entries display hyperlinks to PDB pages that "match" my entered Genus/Species/Cultivar data for a given Journal entry. (not sure how long it's been there, but noticed it recently). My question is how is the "match" performed between my Journal entry and the PDB?

As an example, I have an entry Hemerocallis 'Bright Side' with a common name of Daylily. This matches exactly (or at least I think it does) but no hyperlink appears. So it begs me to ask what is the methodology used?

here's the link to my Journal entry:

And the link to the PDB entry for the same plant:

So why no match??

Dave will have to confirm or correct me, but I think it looks for a match within genus and species only. If the species is missing, it will not match, even if it's missing from both the PDB entry and your journal entry.

If he *could*, it would be nice to have the journal match on cultivar, too and skip a blank species field (especially for the genus Iris, Hemerocallis, Rosa, and Hosta, where countless cultivars exist.)

As a side note, I tried entering a Lobelia in my journal as Lobelia x speciosa 'Deep Fan Rose', and it came up a match to the (correctly titled) L. x speciosa 'Fan Deep Rose'

When I changed the journal entry to Lobelia speciosa (no "x"), it matched to Lobelia speciosa 'Fan Scarlet'

That would explain it Terry. I know if I have a Genus & species match I get the link. Also if I have Genus/Species/Cultivar match. I spent about a 1/2 an hour trying to find my mis-spelling that was causing it not to match, but I understand now. I'll see what Dave says.

Dave--I vote for a match to count if Genus and Cultivar match.

I noticed this when entering my Hostas and my daylily and also wanted to bring it up. I also like the idea of matching Genus and cultivar so I would also like to put my vote in with Brenda and Terry.

I came over here to list a similar observation. I have 6 caladiums in my journal. Here is a link to view one of them.

http://davesgarden.com/ej/viewentry.php?rid=37672

It lists each of the "matches" in the PDB for caladiums, a whole bunch, before it shows my actions on that plant. If it is not possible to narrow down the match field, is it possible to put them after all my actions?

Thanks, ;~D
