My new P. Viatfolia, its a sad sight right now. I'm hoping I can bring it around quickly. What would you all do to this 1 in order to get the best out of it?

My father in law brought me this 1 last week and it's labeled P. Incense but it looks like caerulea. It has 5 bladed leaves and I didn't think caerula has leaves like that. What do you think?

I think labeled wrong,defineatly careula.

Definitely, a P. Caerulea.

You know...I think the vendor of this plant thinks it is Incense since it had 2 colors of incense, blue and purple. The purple must be Incense(It hasnt bloomed yet) and they just called this 1 blue. Who knows, some people are strange...But that's deffinately the pot calling the kettle black bigtime;).

Clare, Your brugs are such beautiful plants even w/o any blooms yet. How long does a flower bud have to get before it starts to flower? Or maybe the right question is how long in time and not in size.
Last week I pruned a bunch of tiny tiny sprouts I didn't want coming off the main "trunk" on CG and frosty pink. I took these babies and put the bottom 1 inch under water in w/ the fishies. The CG has rooted well enough to pot in 5 1/2 days and the frosty pink will probably do the same!It will be very cool having some short and fat flowering brug clones. 1 of the CG sprouts even grew a couple teeny tiny flower buds on top while in the water. WOW these are amazing plants. I can't wait to see what the new Datura's will come up looking like.
LOLOL Man when I first came here and you guys welcomed me with open arms and new cuttings, I've been in heaven ever since. I kept thinking I better get as many passiflora's as possible since I think I need every kind there is!LOL Man I now have so many cuttings and seedlings, I'm having to make new flower beds all over the place! What a problem huh?
Tropicman. The P. Edulis you gave me is a seedling isn't it? It's acting like 1 so I pinched the tip to get more new low shoots on the vine. This seedling has the biggest diameter main stem of all my Passiflora's except my Incarnata that lives in the ground year round. It's an easy 1/4 inch thick and maybe bigger. Do ya think that's because it is a seedling or is that the nature of P. Edulis? I let the main vine get 4 ft. long before pinching it, now it's growing new shoots from all the bottom nodes that still have the seedling shaped, single lobed leaves. I'm loving it! I can usually always count on a Passiflora to grow a lower shoot everytime I pinch the tip, it will usually just "Y" off at the pinch. The Edulis is giving me shoots at almost every node now.
Well I best get back to potting up and planting, I still don't see an end in sight! Darn the luck!

Hi JD, yes, I think you are right that your passionflower vines were mislabeled, but that is nothing new, right? One of the nurseries that I go to here has labels missing from half of their plants, and the other half is mislabeled!

Those flower buds that developed on your new little cutting probably developed before you cut it off the main stem. In other words, the original plant would have bloomed. At this point, I would recommend pinching off all blooms from your new cuttings. Your new cuttings need to divert all of their energy toward root formation and growing taller. If they have to divert energy to flower production, growth and root formation will suffer for it.

Your main plants that I sent you can be allowed to flower because they have strong root systems now and will continue to grow even while flowering. I would say it takes several weeks from bud to bloom.

Thanks for the bump...

I've been trying my hand a rooting several passifloras and getting no where fast....*sigh*

This thread is so packed full of great info and easy to follow, I'm sure my luck will change :-)

Thx everyone for taking the time to post this info....

I wish you much luck and I'm glad your finding helpful info. Don't be shy if you have any more questions, I love helping and will do all I can. It's much easier to clone plants than many people make it out to be IMO. Don't be afraid of trying new methods or altering these, there are so many ways of getting the same results. It's just a matter of finding 1 that fits you best.

I will be watching to see how this all progressed.....thanks for the info and keep on going.... :o)

Well all my cuttings are now large vines in the yard. I didn't get every single cutting to take but atleast 90-95% are established plants. Now if they would only bloom! Patience is something I'm running short on at the moment and the weather sure isn't helping. Gimme some sunshine!

I gave all of mine away or sent them away in trades. The Oasis cubes with the rooting hormone in the humidity dome worked the best for me.
