ugh- I just got called for jury duty. I so don't want to go and do it. I have a stressful enough job as it is and they really can't afford for me not to be there. Worse it's right after I get back from Spring Break vacation and right before my b-day. I was hoping they'd never call me. My mom and dad love this sort of thing. My luck I'd get seated for some case and have to go for weeks. Sorry, just had to vent. :(
They found me
I have always wanted to serve for jury duty, but have never once been called. My husband's been called *three* times, I think, but has only ended up serving once (the other trials were cancelled or postponed). It would be stressful doing one for murder or something really serious, though. His was just an armed robbery, and the old man who owned the robbed jewelry store said on the stand, "I'm too old for this sh**". LOL
LOL- My one uncle's mom has been called for the big cases several times. She has been on and an alternate juror for some scary cases back home in Texas. I'm sure most people don't mind going but my luck would be to server on one for a really scary bad person. I don't need that worry with a kid, or the worry of being paid so little. I can't afford to not be at work since I'm the only "bread winner" here. If you like gw you can go for me if I can't find a way out. :) :)
Just tell them that you think the defendent is guilty because they look "shifty", or that you don't like lawyers, or that if the cops arrested them they must be guilty..... Its not true but it will get you excused. lol
I've been called twice. Once was a nice relaxing day reading a book. The next day was interesting for me, we went into the courtroom and the jury was picked. They let us go around noon time. It seems like some of the cases come right down to choosing a jury and then the case is settled without a trial. I would have liked to stay since I was being paid by my employer.
I was called last year but didn't have to serve. I hope you can get out of serving.
polarbear- I did think of doing all that and more, but I don't even want to have to be there. I work for the same County that my duty would be. Problem is that I work for the Educational dept as an aide at a school. The school is for behavior childern who also are emotionally distrupted. If I'm not there it could make for a really long day for the other 2 people in our classroom. Some of our kids are really strong and when they are angry it's made even worse. We have on child that can take several grown adults to hold so they won't hurt us(kids & staff) or themselves. So, I would hate not to be at work because of the potential for trouble.
elsie- I have no clue if we get paid by our employer or not. If not it that would be bad since I'm a single parent. I do know a few people at work have been called and got out of it. I will be checking with them tomorrow.
You actually present a pretty good argument right here. Somewhere on your summons there should be some nice little lines that you fill in if you would have a problem fulfilling the obligation. All they can do is tell you no.
Yeah, true Chele but you don't know my luck. LOL
I agree maybe if you explain your case. They could always talk to your employer too to verify.
I am going to try tomorrow. I know it seems bad for me not to want to do this.
Oh geez, I just read one of the other papers and they have a thing that asks you if you's like to contribute your $15 dollars a day you get to the Improvement of the Administration of Justice Fund. Right, how about the Improvement of my Bank Account Fund so I can pay bills. That kills me. They stick you with duty and then want you to hand over the little they even bother to give you. As if my time isn't valuable.
Well it *would* be mighty nice of you to give up your income and your stipend. LOL
LOL, sure would be *nice* of me. Then again who said I was always *nice*. One of the police officers who works in/out of our building nicknamed me *meaness*. :)
Gasp! Meaness?? LOL I can hardly imagine, especially after meeting you! :) I guess you must have a certain spark though or you couldn't do your job. I know, tough love. I think your job must be very trying and you have to be a special person to do it.
I was called for jury duty twice! Never attend! My Mom called them and told them that I was hearing imparied and still in school. They gave me excuse so I don't have to go. Whew..
Called up twice! First time I asked for a postponement (I teach too) and I went in the summer for 30 days. Second time I was only on for a week. Talk about a waste of time!! Go and sit and sit and sit. There must be a better way to do this!! My husband was called and he got his employer to write a letter saying that they wouldn't pay him - he got out of going.l It is an eye opener tho and you do meet nice people!! I'm not working now and wouldn't mind going, but when I worked full time it was a real hassle... good luck!!
Many employers give administrative leave with pay if you are called to jury duty. Is this a possibility where you work?
If it causes a hardship on you, sometimes they'll let you out of it. My husband was called last year, he had a medical test that had been scheduled for 6 months on the day they wanted him. He called the lady who does the scheduling, and told her he'd be happy to come any day BUT that one, and explained the situation to her. She excused him completely.
Jury Duty isn't bad, it's being drawn for the Grand Jury that is a pain. I don't think you're going to come up against any really hard core cases here.... I mean, Clermont County isn't exactly the criminal hotbed of the state.
I actually enjoy sitting in court and listening to the cases, particuarly the ones before Judge Shriver. He always imparts some wisdom or sarcasm on the person, dependent on what they did, and how they acted.
LOL- True Clermont County is not a big hot bed, but where I work it would be my luck to draw a case where I know it's the parent of one of the kids at school. My principal was like I don't think so, because it would create a safety issue at work being that it's the week right after spring break. Our kids cycle enough with out having a lets let it all hang week thrown in there too. It's been a long week here Chele, and tough love does not even begin to discribe what we have had to do the last 2 days. My favorite kid was such a joy the last 2 days. I do love that kid to death but some days I wonder why I try so hard. especially when he's trying to punch or kick me.
It's like Me: "keep your body parts to yourself"
Kid: "No, Why, I don't have to, make me you big chicken, *chicken noises*"
In that order too.
Another reason I am so thankful to my Professors who made us observe sooooo many hours in all the fields. Every observation I went to, I was more and more convinced that I was in the right area -- I'm Secondary Ed. I'm good with Teenagers and Tweenagers, I don't have the patience for little kids or special kids, Middle school kids are ok, but I am so much more comfortable with the older ones.
Anyway, if you explain your anxieties, They'll probably excuse you.
