Clematis in FL Zone 10A??

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

I bought a Clematis at Wal-Mart yesterday. Pot 2 1/2" wide X 3 1/2" deep. Looks like the little plant has grown overnight! Can this be grown in this Zone, and should it be in the shade? If it can be grown here, I'm going back and get more for my fence.

patischell -- Clematis does well in our zone as per my neighbors. Aren't there planting and growing guides on the label? What I do know is that they do not like our full sun but prefer a shady section with some direct sun. Go buy all your heart desires.

Thanks Tplant. It had very vague instructions on the little tag. It did say that it could live for a long time in a 10" pot, so I think I will start with that since I do container gardening. I have a spot under an Oak tree that seems to be the best place

Pati, Clemantis does well for me here. you need to have their "heads in the sun, & feet in shade." I find mulching takes care of the "feet". Melba

Thanks for the advice GaGAL. With all the Oak trees I don't think I'll have any trouble covering their feet *G*. Seems like I have a great variety of Oaks that the County planted on their right-of-way on the North side of my house and each variety sheds on a different schedule. The best part of that is that they screen my house from the street and the canal/ditch that runs beside the street. Now if I can just cover the chain link fence with vines I will have complete privacy. THis is very important because of my early morning excursions into the yard in my nightgown to inspect the plants (LOL)

Pati, this is a very fast growing vine! it has covered this section of fence in no time! It's the Snail vine. I have started some morning glories, & moonflower vine. Can't wait till they grow!

WOW!! That is truly beautiful. I have a Mexican Flame Vine started that seems to be happy. Did you buy the Snail vine locally? I would really love to get one. I have about 125 feet of chain link fence down one side of the back yard to cover, so fast growers would really help. The neighbors on the other side have red Passion vine on the fence that has been there for many years, so that side is pretty well taken care of.

Pati, I ordered this vine from Publishers Clearing House! When it came it was just a dead-looking stick. I put it in a small pot, watered it ,and it started putting on leaves. I am trying to root some cuttings for my neighbor. If they root, I will be glad to share one with you. Melba
