Will Honesty bloom the first year??

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I started some seeds a couple of months ago, now they are about 6" tall and ready to set out - will these bloom this year?? Or are they like so many perennials that wait til the second year?

I think you are asking about Lunaria annua, Money Plant or Honesty. If so, they are biennials and won't bloom until next year. The first year they stay fairly small and just store up nutrients in their roots for their big show the second year.

Thanks, I was afraid of that!

Actually, mine did bloom the first year. Planted the seeds late, because I had finished converting a corner of grass into a flowerbed, and forgot about them. Didn't recognise them at first when they bloomed, because Mom swears she only had purple, and the first blooms were white. But when the seed pods came on they are pretty hard to miss!

I was thinking the same thing, it seems last year I only had one plant, and it did bloom! That's where I got the seeds! Thanks for reminding me.

Ok so since I planted my seeds early last fall I have a chance of maybe seeing some blooms this year? That would be very cool but not holding my breath so I wont be disapointed. I have the pink and the white and now I need to go find the purple I guess huh?

Would you like some purple? I think I still have some seeds. Does honesty actually come in three colors or are we talking about the same thing? I offered some "purple" coneflower for trade last year and someone informed me that it's color was actually more pink than purple! She was right, it was, but the label on the seed package said purple! My honesty last year was a kind of lavenderish purple, more toward the blue end of the spectrum than the red.

Want some?

Ive only ever seen the white myself, the seeds I planted were from my Uncle's house and he told me they were pink. Hes pretty old but I dont think hes color blind yet. And yes if you have any extra I would love to have some of the purple. I dont have any of the pink or white at the moment as I planted and gave them all away. But if these bloom this year I should have plenty. LOL

edited to say Im talking about Honesty-lunaria, just so ya know.

I planted some seeds for the purple year before last and only got green leaves. Then it bloomed for me this past year. It was pretty, but I made a HUGE mistake by letting it go to seed!!! Yep....I have tons of babies everywhere I look!!
I've been pulling them out like weeds!
PJ, do you want me to try and save you some of the seedlings? Most of them are up about 4-6" tall.
