I did not think we had as much get in beginning last winter. But now they are everywhere. Being crunched underfoot, little corpses everywhere, live ones divebombing us, getting on our skin and biting; they are also on the plants. Are they the ones responsible for the holes on the leaves?
Do you have ladybugs?
nope, not responsible for holes in leaves. They tend to heat bugs! (Yay!)
We have something that looks like ladybugs. They are Japanese or Asian beetles. They get in everywhere, stain the paint on the walls, die in light fixtures, etc. People try anything to get rid of them. Vacumn works best, then burn the bag, otherwise they crawl out again. Did I mention they stink real bad if you smash them? They also like to bite! Don't think aphids are on their menu!
Someone actually brought them in to eat aphids.
They finally leave the house after it gets real warm outdoors, only to return in the fall!
Real ladybugs hibernate outside under logs or leaves. Don't bother anybody.
Last year we had infestation of soybean aphid. It took about a week for the ladybugs to catch-up in population, but then they did a number on the aphids.
Most farmers sprayed their bean fields, but probably would not have had to.
They will never know because the spray killed any kind of bug.

I'm worried about maybe an infestation of the Asian Beetle, as they look alot like lady bugs and can do damage. From what I read in a organic gardening magazine, they are becoming more and more rampant in the south and east, and are migrating my way. I found one here last summer. I'd catch one of them and take it down to your local extension and ask them what it is.
here are links..on lady bugs: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/ent/notes/Other/orn_t74/not74.html
and on the asian lady beetle: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/ent/notes/Other/goodpest/note107.html
They are Asian Beetles, my extension agent told me that yesterday. Be prepared for them Karrie. I don't know how long it will take to get to you, but I noticed them here about 11 years ago and they are quite a nuisance. They are more brown than red and they do have an odor if you kill them.
I thought perhaps they might be. I know they are just getting here, as I saw one last year. YUG!
