If I am sending a non-subscriber friend

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

an email, and want to send them a link to one of the threads in here, because they are in need of that type of info, would they only see the first post or would they be allowed to see the whole thread?

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

They will see only the first post. There is no way around that unless you copy and past th info into your e-mail

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

You know, maybe if they were allowed to see just that one thread (if it were even possible to do that) they might end up liking Dave's and subscribe.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Free trial periods or "sneak previews" aren't practical, and up to now, we haven't felt they are worth the time/effort for Dave to program and us to "police" (because some people will do a lot to keep getting something for nothing.)

If we've learned nothing else since we went to a subscription-format over two years ago, it is that people subscribe for a number of reasons, and enticing them with a free preview hasn't been necessary:

-they read the first post of a few threads and curiosity gets the better of them; or
-a friend recommends they subscribe; or
-they want to take advantage of the advanced PDB features; or
-they want to financially support the many features we provide (The Watchdog, the PDB, etc.); or
-they do the $5/two-month trial, figuring they aren't out much if it doesn't live up to their expectations...or some other reason ;o)

You are welcome to copy and paste the pertinent post and email it to your friend; you can always add your own encouragement for them to try a subscription, and that might be all the encouragement they need.
