Okay you German language buffs ....

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Trying to pick a great name for the AKC register for my Miniature Schnauzer puppy. Her first name with be Allegheny, after some regional areas back home in PA.

She's a very curious puppy. So far, I'm thinking "Allegheny Curiosity".

Since the Schnauzer has lots of German history, what is the German word for "curious"?

Also taking any other good ideas for names. :)
Thanks!

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

How about Vienerschnitzel ?

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

lol

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Congrats Jen! We had a standard Schnauzer when I was little. I can't remember where my mother got his name, nor how to spell it but his name was Ronzellig (probably butchered the sp. lol). It meat great or mighty or something like that. He was an excellent dog but he didn't like men. I hope you find something really fitting!

Angel, How's that? :)

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

OI! They don't come with pronounciations, do they?!

:) I'm reminded now why I took three years of Latin in high school, and avoided spoken languages like German. :) Nobody can holler at me if I mis-pronounce something in Latin. :)

Here you go AngelSong http://german.about.com/library/weekly/aa042699.htm

Jungen means boy names and Mädchen means girl names.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

The only German person I ever knew was named Uta.(oo' tah) I always thought it was so unique.

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Thanks, Mitjo,
*LOL* I'm sitting here, reading some of the German words for places... when I pronounce them to myself, they sound funnny!

Bad Kissingen From the Slavic for "sour, bubbling spring."

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey, just for fun, I went to babynames.com and you can search for girl's names and German. Darn, the link won't work but you can try it. :)

I used a translator and the German word that came up for curious is neugierig. How the heck do you pronounce that one? LOL!!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The meaning of curious is neugierig. Curiosity would be Neugier. In Germany, pet names are either male or female, depending on the gender.
If you wish, I could tell you common german dog names. All I have to know, if its a male or female.

Hexe (witch), Biene (bee), Bienchen (little bee) for females,

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

monika! :) Thank you for coming to my post... :)

My puppy is female.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

One I saw on the baby name thing, was Nixie which meant 'little sprite' according to that. You could just send her up to me and the girls and not worry about a name. ;)

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

:) While I was taught to properly share, I don't think Allie will come to live with you and the gals, 'Seed. :)

Nixie ... that's cute ...

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

Allie Nix!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Hexe is a very nice name for a female. witch would be the proper translation but it also is used for someone smart or tricky. Once in a while, I use the word Hexchen (little witch)for my female cat Minka, when she had tricked me out LOL
Nice names are also Frigga, Freya, which are names out of our myths. Afra, Assie, Asta, Bella, Biene, Blanka, Cilly, Cilla, Gisa, Lissie, Dora, Maja ,Thora, Zira, Zita are dog names.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Gosh Jen, you won't share your new toy? Tsk tsk. LOL I wish I had room in this house for another pet. :) Our husky is pushing 14 years and she is starting to wind down. :( I told my hubby the other day, IF we get something else, it will be something SMALL and without so much HAIR!

Whoops, it says Nixie means water sprite, not little sprite.
How about Winola-gracious friend?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Or if you want to be different - give her a name of a cheese. How abotu Dachsteiner or Appenzeller?

Hahah.. :)

"Dachie, hier kommen"

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Winola ... wow .. that's interesting ...

Maja .. Hmm... that's neat too... need to find out what it means . Gisa is interesting, too.

thanks everybody! :)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Nixe is a water nymph, Maja originates from Maria, but Maja is also the name of an old roman god.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Monika, how do you say salt & pepper in German?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

GW- I had considered that earlier today .. I had also thought of "spice" ...

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ally Oop! Love it. Oop oop oop-oop.

Uh, oh...Jenn, have you heard that song?

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

I have not heard that song, :) . My breeder called her that last Sunday - I thought it was pretty funny.... :)

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Jenn, at long last, I found it! You'll need RealPlayer to listen, but here's "Alley Oop":

The Ray Stevens, Charlie Pride version: http://www.foxlink.net/~bobnbren/AlleyOop_RayStevens60s.ram

Here's the original, I believe: http://www.foxlink.net/~bobnbren/AlleyOopTheHollywoodArgyles60.ram

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

gardenwife, we say Salz & Pfeffer. It is used to describe the coat or hair colour in Schnauzer dogs.

Crossville, TN

You will end up calling her MANY names...Sweetie, Baby and TROUBLE comes to mind...since my Countessa (Tessa) is only 7 months old she is in the TROUBLE stage.

Good luck with the naming process. Jo

Sheesh Kimberly, You're showing my age ROFLOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Now there is a name for you! Feffer! Yeah, I dropped the F for pronunciation sake. LOL Feffer sounds kind of cute though. :)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

You mean the P? :)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hey, I'm blonde AND pregnant! LOL Ooops, yes the P, we don't want to think about that. :)

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
