PDB search

Are there ways we can search for a specific binomial in the PDB like you can on google with the "" surrounding it?

I don't know about anyone else but I find the search results than contain more than a page or two a bit frustrating and even intimidating when they run into 20 or more pages.

I've had the same problem - asked for a specific rose and got pages of other plants. Never did get to the rose I was looking for - and I know it's there because I put it in. And yes, I was in the rose section of the data base when I started. some days, this would have been an interesting search - to go from this plant to that plant, but most of the time, I'm looking for something very specific and it is frustrating not to be able to get to it.

I'm going to have to add this to the TODO. I see that it is definitely an important feature to have in the search and so it must get done. It will take a little time, however.

until Dave gets a chance to do that, you can google the plantsdatabase for a particular phrase. At google, type site:plantsdatabase plus your search phrase(s). Like this:

site:plantsdatabase.com "search terms here"

It only searches pages that have been indexed by google, but it helps me out, alot.

Another approach is to try searching for just the species name or the cultivar name (or one word from the cultivar name) to narrow down the search results in a hurry. For example, if I'm looking for Rosa 'Mme. Isaac Pereire'...

Searching for Rosa Mme. Isaac Periere provides 9,078 results: http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=rosa+mme+isaac+periere&Search=Search

Searching for Mme. Isaac Pereire (no "Rosa") provides 41 results: http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=mme+isaac+periere&Search=Search

Searching for Isaac Pereire provides four results: http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=Isaac+pereire&Search=Search

And searching for Pereiere provides one result,
which is the one I'm looking for: http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=Pereire&Search=Search

This approach is arguably counter-intuitive, since Google and other search engines tend to give you better results as you add more words to your search string.

Terry, thanks for that info. I've had the same frustration before, finding that the the more info I gave, the more obscure results I got. I understand why, now.

Ah yes maggie me too
It's knowing which word to chose then lol

Will look forward to the feature when you can do it Dave - not hurrying you, but it will help a lot
Anmd thanks for the other ideas sundry and terry - they'll keep me going :)

I try-ed to put a plant into the PDB, but I like to see if I is already there, to add to it . and got 20 or so pages .
to much for me!!
I don't like to add it NEW if it is already there?
but at the same time the PDB has helped me out heaps
