Did I made the right choice ?

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Something happened today.. ( Just now).

My neighbor had a small pile of fire that they set it fire last saturday. The days have passed and there was still smoking.. So today, I noticed the smokes have built and getting worse. I went and look out of window and saw those fire spreading so fast. I called neighbor but they was not home. I went my other neighbor to ask for help me to stop the fire but they are not home either. The across from us.. they was not home too.. My Dh's at work. I was alone home with my baby. I have no choice but called 911 to ask for help to stop the fire. In right time, my neighbor came home ( who had the fire on his front yard). He went and tried to stop and in same time, the firetruck and polices came by and helped.
The one thing, I am feeling upsetting cause I don't want the neighbor to get mad at me if they charged him. THey are good friends of mine. I have no choice but no one wasn't home around here.. I am all alone home. I can't leave baby home himself cause he's 7 months old and I don't want to carry him cause it's bad for him to breathe in the smoke. Now The fires have stopped. The fires have been picked up so fast due the winds blow so strong. AT the same time he was not home to stop the fire.

Worrying,

Look at it this way, if the fire had got out of hand and you hadn't called 911 how would you have felt if the houses burned down or someone had died or was injured?

If your neighbour is angry (although I don't understand why they would be) and is charged then maybe they will take better care next time. They shouldn't be leaving a fire unattended anyway.

You did the best thing you could at the time, who knows, you might have saved a life or two. Would your neighbour really want to risk their property or other peoples lives?

I would have done the same thing. I had to do it with an apartment once, and was afraid of angering my landlord. (3 am in the morning, electrical fire in fridge - but when I called 911, I could only smell a funny smoke). I called the landlord as well, and when he showed up (fire department already there) he thanked me. He could have lost the whole building.

I think you did the right thing also. You just couldn't sit and let their house and think about it maybe your house burn.

Lindale, TX(Zone 8a)

You did the right thing!

Tricia
You sure did the right thing, as Baa said, what if it had got out of hand and burned some houses down.

Good job!!!!

You did the right thing, Mini - not only you were in danger, but so was everyone in the vicinity of that smoldering fire.

Mini I agree with everyone here. Please stop worrying - your neighbor should thank you, not be mad at you.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

You did the right thing Mini, if he was charged then he shouldnt have been doing it anyway, especially in March when winds pick up.
You had your safty and other peoples safty in mind.
Dont worry about it, as Im sure your neighbor would understand, I would.

Mableton, GA(Zone 7b)

If your neighbor acts annoyed to you I'll bet it will be because he is embarassed. It will pass.

YOU DID THE RIGHT THING GIRL! :)

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

You are to be commended for your clear thinking and actions. You have no reason to feel guilty.

Thank you for making me feeling better.. When DH came home and told him what happened. He said you did the right thing.

Congradulations! You should get a medal or something.
I remember something about people ignoring the Southern California fires when they first started!

Yes.. Dh said I can leave fires going on cause there's creek around.. but I said I can't cause I am all alone at home and no one around is at home.. I don't want to take a risk if the fires spread and out of control. You never know what it will happen next.. If everybody is at home or my dh is home then I won't worry about it.. We lives on 18 acres of land. THe fires spread to south plus the winds was built strong.
