Telecommuters or freelancers here?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm just wondering who all at Dave's works from home. I've done a couple of long-distance desktop publishing type jobs for people via the web, and do that kind of work from home occasionally. Howie and I sometimes work on peoples' computers in our home.

I'm interested in doing some telecommuting or freelance work and am looking at more than just my region. The thing is, most of the listings I see at places like Monsterjobs.com are scams. Does anyone have suggestions for truly *legitimate* job placement sites for this kind of work? Ones which do not require applicants to pay them any fees?

What are your experiences working from your home? Have you ever been stiffed by a customer? How do you accept payment?

Questions...questions...
Inquiring mind, you know! =)

Kimberly, my friend in a nearby town works in Atlanta, a 2-1/2 hour drive, so he stays over during the week. They are talking about doing telecommuting for his job as soon as there is internet cable available. That's Georgia Power, owned by The Southern Company.

I know Duke Univ. had several telecommuters all over, compiling research data. You might try the universities and library systems.

You might want to try posting a resume' highlighting your skills and experience. My daughter just started a new job from posting her resume on line. It was not for telecommuting but it cost her nothing to post it and she had several offers within days. So companies are using the internet to seek talent. Give it a whirl!

The 3 years before I retired I telecommuted, it was great, much more productive also. It sure beats sitting in traffic for up to 1 1/2 hours a day.

The only reply I got from Monster dot com was very legitimate. It was from the Muscular Dystrophy branch here, and they interviewed me. I didn't get the job, but oh well!

I do know what you mean by "scams" - especially the work at home ones.
