WOW! We finally got some snow! Everything is so white. The kids are out of school(they are more happy about it than I am LOL)
Strange thing about this is, I woke up at 2:00a/m to the sound of thunder and lightening. I went out on the back porch and heard the sound of sleet hitting the tin roof. Then around 5:30a/m I got up and saw everything was covered in beautiful white snow!
I never realized that thunder and lightening went along with snow!!!
Has anyone else ever heard of this?
Woke up to our first snow of the year!
No.. never heard ...
Go and take some pictures.. We would like to see it.. No SNOW down here..
Once in a great while Ive heard it but it is still unusual for me. I can only think of maybe two times when I heard thunder when it snowed and it didnt last long.
It happens here, especially in the spring. I once was looking out our living room window towards a hayfield. There were small snow drifts here & there. All at once a lightening bolt hit a snowbank & it flew every direction, melting the whole thing.
When I was a youngster, us & 2 neighbors had some dairy cows killed in their barns by lightening during a snow thunderstorm in March.
The weather that creates thunder & lightening doesn't care what the moisture is.

Thunder and lightning snowstorms occasionally happen here too. Kind of freaky, but neat.
The only other time I remember hearing thunder during a snow storm was in March of 95 I think when we woke up to a loud clap of thunder....and when we looked out we were covered in snow. That was the the Blizzard of 95.
That snow storm last for days and we were snowed in for 9 days or more.
This storm from what I hear isn't going to last too long.
I remember thunder and lightning with snow once when I was a kid in Pennsylvania. I remember my dad commented on how rare that was.
We got 2.4 inches of rain last night!!! No thunder and lightning, though. We get a thunderstorm maybe once every two years.
Gee Molly, I heard the racket last nite, but only woke to drifted dustings, and it's all gone now! :(
We still have alot of snow everywhere. The streets are all slushie like, so I'm hoping the temps don't drop back down and refreeze everything tonight. That black ice is worse than driving in the snow!
I for one stay home when its like this. The folks out there are nuts!!
Here's hoping the temps stay above freezing tonight!
We had few minutes of freezing rain last night, and then awoke at dawn to 3-4" of beautiful snow blanketing everything. It was truly a black-and-white "winter-wonderland" scene with all the tree branches outlined in white, and the magnolia and hemlock trees coated, too. I just sat and stared for a long time!
We weren't really expecting to get anything from this storm, and had really started to think we weren't getting a measurable snowfall this year - that made it an extra-special treat for the kids to have a snowday when they least expected it!
